Found an old one taken in S. Jersey. Diving platform in a small lake. Full color shot, but there was so much fog and flat light that no color registered.

Indy, now you’re from Philly, son. You KNOW it’s “throwback Thursday’s”. No excuses 🥸

Germany- Some of the roads were pretty narrow, but there were handy turnouts:)

Denmark- Narrow one-lane road with two-way traffic. The red lanes are used when meeting oncoming traffic, but they work for bikes.

The red lanes are also used for going around blind corners.

Thigh Master's photo above reminds me of the Shafer Trail dropping down to meet the White Rim Trail at Canyonlands NP Utah. An old scanned print ... that's my riding partner descending at the red arrow. I'm next! ...

I went up it in a car in 2000. Crazy. Some nimrod ignored the warning signs and was inching down in an RV. The look on his face was priceless,

Looked up "Shafer trail" out of curiosity and ran into a fantastic pic on the nps website:

In 1990 I took the Amtrak cross country to Grand Junction CO and cycled across the Grand Mesa to Crested Butte for their Fat Tire Bike Week. At Crawford CO I took a side trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument (now Park). I continued on to Glenwood Springs after the bike week to catch the return train east. Here are a few snapshots of the Black Canyon-

hey Bob, too bad you took down your Carcassone photos.
Among my many bike touring memories is coming around a corner and spotting the walls of Carcassone for the first time, and as a North American, it was like a scene out of a fairy tale.
Very cool place.

Thanks djb - I thought they looked a little grainy on the big screen so I did more editing. Old scanned slides. Here they are again ...

Carcassonne (Aude) France

My traveling buddy and I arrived there and got a room in the youth hostel inside the walled part. Was pretty cool walking around.
It's funny the stuff you remember, it was 1993 and at the hostel there was a Québécoise lady about my age, but when she realized I was an Anglo from Quebec, she suddenly wasn't friendly anymore, kinda funny I recall. This was just a few years before the second independence referendum here in Quebec and the whole thing was ramping up again at that time.

I stayed with friends at a hotel in Quillan about 55K south. I had joined them for a 5 day hotel tour chasing the TDF after a camping trip down from Paris. I rode into Carcassonne late in the afternoon to catch a night train back to Paris so I had lots of time to stroll around and take photos in the evening light. The previous day we rode through Gorges de Galamus.

Bob, all that area is just a really neat place to bike travel in isn't it?. Haven't been back in that specific area since then, but great memories for us eh?
Old fogies that we are!

Yep! The sign photo says it all. Two Chateaus, the Gorges, Hot Springs, a Medieval city & a Mediterranian city all within a few Kilometers connected by mostly back roads!
