January 2026, "Sand Dune Highway", Mui Ne, Vietnam |
Like many, I'm just counting the days until spring and warm days. And thinking back. June 2023 was my 4 day tour on the western half of the Erie Canal Trail. Lovely hot days.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...eef8b84a4.jpeg Fairport, NY. That's the trail which runs right along the canal with the early season tour boats parked for the night. After the run of cold, snowy weather we've had, I often think of that hot, dry week. |
We picked up the trail in Lockport after crossing back into the U.S. from Niagara Falls, ON in August of 1999. I was surprised at how warm and humid it was. Spent the night in dorm rooms at SUNY Brockport. It was nice to have AC. The next day we left the trail east of Rochester and headed up to the lake. Another warm, sticky day.

Old U.S. Hwy 20 in Iowa. Don't stop, just point the camera over the helmet and take a picture. Sometimes they almost turn out:)

Man, oh man, road engineers sure are insane sometimes, aren't they? Some roads just dangle on the cliffs. And being on a bicycle with a blind corner coming up ... Eek.

It was the crankset high "guardrails" that gave me the heebie geebies. Of course along with the nearly straight down cliffs that you would plunge down if you rode the cement bits and toppled over. |
From my Finger Lakes of NY tour July 2025… Last time I was in this town was in 1985 during a century ride. It was a Sunday and I cut a tire just about where this picture was taken. The gash was too big for my patch kit. Plus I had wandered off course and there was no sweep to rescue me. It was a Sunday and nothing was open.I walked a bit and found someone at the volunteer fire dept who let me use their phone. I called the ride organizer who promised help was on the way. 4 hours later helped arrived..
So on this day last July as I rode through the town, I was singing to myself; “ Oh Lord don’t let me get stuck in Lodi again” 😁 https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...76a049ec6.jpeg |
