Where did you get the info that the Coleman was a pound lighter??? I read it had 3 pounds of fill, not 3 pounds overall. Actually I think this SB is a brick, really it is a 50 degree bag, and I found somewhere its weight was stated as 5 pounds. WalMart and Coleman, for the most part, only has child/ novice/ car camper rated gear.

I think you could do better, at 4+ pounds the Nemo is pretty heavy for a 30 degree bag. I am not much of a synthetic fan, I prefer down unless going on a canoe, kayak trip. At 30 degrees look for a do bag in the 2 pound range.

1- the Nemo Mezzo seems heavy for that price. So i would say it isnt ok for bike touring. At least it wouldnt be ok for me. I cant imagine spending that much on a sleeping bag, much less one that would be so heavy and not good down to -0.

2- if you would not buy the Nemo Mezzo, then why even ask about it? I dont understand the point of your question as you arent interested in the subject item you are asking about.

When you say -0 are you referring to Celsius? Cause I have never seen a good sleeping bag rated for 0 Fahrenheit for less the $500.00 let alone $229.00

That sounds not a bad suggestion.
Many people have headed in that direction on local bushwalking forums so there must be something to them.
They don't suit everyone however but do make some sense with regards how light they are and how small they pack.
Using one full time however, Biketouringhobo might prefer a synthetic version, being easier to launder than a down quilt or sleeping bag.

tell us a bit about the temperatures your've been encountering in your parts.
I'm not familiar with California except I seem to remember reading about orange groves, so expect you get hot summer days.
Living here in Western Australia, I understand that dry desert country can still mean cold winter nights though.
Has your current bags been satisfactory for the conditions you've been camping out in?

An Enlightened Equipment 40* quilt is $220 and less than a lb. for example.
Go to Xmart and Coleman for car camping not for hiking or bicycle touring.

from Nov 1st to April 1st I use a Big Agnes Encampment 15deg sleeping bag 3lbs 7oz and I am 10-15 miles from Pacific Ocean and it gets down 40deg in the Winter and i wear

I have two DIY top quilts. On one, I converted an old synthetic mummy bag into a top quilt. I got rid of the zippers, the hood, and alot of excess material. It cut the volume and weight in half.
I also turned a cheap, $50 down throw blanket into a top quilt. That was also an easy project. That packs down to a size of a grapefruit.
Top quilts work equally as well on the ground as in a hammock.

I'm really confused as to what this thread's purpose is. You state in Post #26 that you're not buying the bag you asked for feedback on. Therefore why are you asking for feedback on it?

When I tour where the temperature might be pretty cool I use two lightweight sleeping bags. On warm nights I use one bag and on the very cool nights I use the second bag over the first bag but with the zipper on the opposite side. That way I don't have an overly bulky bag that takes up a lot of room and that's too hot a lot of times.

BTW, ever think about getting an army surplus sleeping bag? They're designed for rugged prolonged use and can be a real bargain compared to a new civilian bag.

In answer to your initial question: whether the Nemo bag can be used for bike touring, why yes of course it can. Any sleeping bag can be used for bike touring. Any tent can be used for bike touring. Any bike can be used for bike touring. The question is, do YOU want to use it. No one on this board can give you that answer, they can only provide the pro's and con's, which you appear to know before you even post the question.
