Sure it would work, but if you're a little more cost conscious, as 10 wheels mentioned, there are lesser expensive bags with similar temperature ratings that are lighter in weight and cost considerably less.

And packs bigger than the moon. I bought a 32 degree down sleeping bag a couple of years ago, no longer available, at Walmart for well under $100. Weighs a pound and change, packs small and cost nothing. Still using it and it works great. Why you would to carry the extra pack weight, both in terms of the bigger panniers but also the extra weight of the sleeping bag...makes no sense to me. Some people just love to punish themselves.

Oh, now you're just asking for it. Outta here before I hear the lock :) and would someone please slap me for my naivety

I fail to understand why someone would spend money on a bag that's worse than one they already have.

Even if you didn't already have a bag, I'd say no. It's huge and it's not cheap. You can either find a better one for that money, or a cheaper one of that quality.

If you plan on carrying two sleeping bags on your tour, I'm probably not going to convince you that's a bad idea. It's your call. Have fun back there!

Timequake 05-27-16 02:44 PM

Holy god that's expensive! I got a 30 degree sleeping bag that weighs the same from Fred Meyer for $19.

Why would a sleeping bag die?

Timequake 05-27-16 02:48 PM

Here you go. 30 degree sleeping bag, 1 pound lighter than your Nemo. $24.

No zippers to deal with.

Keep the zipper lubed and the Pulls might not break.

The sleeping bags didn't die. The zipper did. Something you can easily fix/repair/replace with a needle and thread and $5 spent at the local fabric/craft store.

In that case you spent $150+ on a sleeping bag you could get for $24 from Walmart.

...Ahhhh but I forgot. The Walmart one doesn't say "Big Agnes" on it!

Where did you get the info that the Coleman was a pound lighter??? I read it had 3 pounds of fill, not 3 pounds overall. Actually I think this SB is a brick, really it is a 50 degree bag, and I found somewhere its weight was stated as 5 pounds. WalMart and Coleman, for the most part, only has child/ novice/ car camper rated gear.

I think you could do better, at 4+ pounds the Nemo is pretty heavy for a 30 degree bag. I am not much of a synthetic fan, I prefer down unless going on a canoe, kayak trip. At 30 degrees look for a do bag in the 2 pound range.

mstateglfr 05-27-16 08:21 PM

1- the Nemo Mezzo seems heavy for that price. So i would say it isnt ok for bike touring. At least it wouldnt be ok for me. I cant imagine spending that much on a sleeping bag, much less one that would be so heavy and not good down to -0.

2- if you would not buy the Nemo Mezzo, then why even ask about it? I dont understand the point of your question as you arent interested in the subject item you are asking about.
