Man cycles 500 km in wrong direction

Maybe don't toss that old map case that goes on the handlebar bag just yet...

Chinese man cycles 500km in wrong direction to get home - BBC News

A man hoping to cycle home cross-country for Chinese New Year realised 30 days into his trip that he had been travelling in the wrong direction.

From: Thailand..........currently Nakhon Ricefield, moving to the beach soon.

Bikes: inferior steel....alas....noodly aluminium assploded

strange.....even given chinese touring style...
he only made 500 km in 30 days?
thats....uhhh.....around 16 km, or 10 miles
per day!!!

short of funds? migrant worker?
no get 30 days off. regardless,
the train or bus would be much
cheaper than 30 days or more on
the road.

train ticket from rizhao where he allegedly
started from to harbin in heilongjiang is
only $35. he could get a "standing" seat
for half that price. just checked....day
before chinese new year, and tickets on
that route still available.

i call bs on this one. he got stopped by
the coppers on the superhighway and
made up a story on the spot.

there's a link in the bbc article to the original
chinese webicle. there are some photos of the
dude on the expressway, and a bit of text.

reading the chinese, it seems the bbc translation
" the man had been living in internet cafes and was low on funds. "
was incorrect. the original article said because he
was spending so much time in internet cafes, the
money ran out.

also, dinna say he could not read a map. said he asked
for directions along the way, but went the wrong way.

oh, yeah, and anhui is NOT central china, it's just
off the east coast.

Bikes: More bicycles than I can ride at one time: 2 custom made tourers, a Brompton 6-speed, and an Indian-made roadster.

... deleted. Not worth responding to. IMHO.
