Sq 611

So I'm thinking about maybe a different saddle.
What's your experience and thoughts about the SQ 611? or any other non-leather saddle?
I'll repeat non-leather.
Thanks!

What kind of bike? Upright? Drops? Flat bars?

skookum 05-06-17 06:33 PM

If its a good fit for you, go for it.

According to testberichte.de with 16 tests the most tested saddle with a phenomenal average rating of 1.3.
I mean, what could go wrong?

610 Active is working pretty good for me. Comfy both upright & on drops. SQ design reinforces correct posture & the Active bits smooth out the ride.

BigAura 05-07-17 02:12 AM

How about a Brooks?

john_mct 05-07-17 07:20 AM

Looks a lot like my favorite saddle, the Charge Spoon, but just 3 times the price...

Squeezebox 05-07-17 07:24 AM

Right now I'm close to maxxing out the wt limit, I want to lose a fair bit of wt.
My bicycle is a Trek 920 with drop bars, standard bend. I ride on the hoods 50%, upper bend 30% Top flats 20% drops less than 10%, approx. Seat and bars are about level.
Sorry BA I have no interest in leather at this point.
Any opinions about the 610 vs 611? The active sounds like the way I'll go with that.
Thanks for your opinions.

Looks very different. and no choice of width. The charge spoon looks a lot like what I have now.
I'm glad you found what works for you.
Thanks!

The Brooks saddle at BA's link is the rubber/cotton C-17 Cambium. I have one and like it a lot. That said, I wish I got a black one. Pictured is mine in "slate". It bleaches out pretty light in color and shows absorbed stains on the cotton...

I think you just convinced most people NOT to cough up the $$$ for one of those...how many miles on that thing?

BobG 05-07-17 11:48 AM

It is indeed showing wear after maybe 3 years of fairly light use. Some fraying and abrasions on the cotton. That said it is the most comfortable saddle I've ever had. I hate the saggy Brooks leather saddles. I replaced a wider, softer Terry Liberator with this one. It is quite neutral feeling. Not soft, not hard ...just makes contact where needed without overstating its presence.

As stated, the black one at BA's link will not show the stains.

I'd hit it with some shoe polish.

Yep, I'll also be sure to shampoo it before using it in a photo-op again. A fussy audience here at BF! That said, those are mostly shadows from the light in the photo.

7,000 miles on a black C-17 Cambium. It still looks great.

You pointed it out! My point was if you're not happy with the natural-patina there are possible remedies.

Cool... Thanks Jonc! The only reason I got the slate color was because they were out of the black.

Squeezebox 05-07-17 11:05 PM

So the SQ 610 has a lowered nose ,step down, for less pressure on the perineum. Comes in different widths. The active version supposedly has less pressure on the sit bones. Did I miss anything?
The Cambium has a cut out for less perennial pressure. Does that really work? It's made of rubber. That should be okay. Cotton cover? Could be better but maybe okay. Did I miss anything?
So help me decide. What do you like about either. I guess I'm leaning towards the SQ 610. Anything to say about the active set-up?

What's the issue with cotton as a finish? It's a thin hard layer of fabric bonded to the rubber to define color and texture.

fun, just like dying easter eggs!

i think if i wanted to speed 100 bucks on a new saddle, i might buy one of those. there's no doubt i would buy a C17 before i bought one of their leather saddles, of which i have, and have owned, a few.

Thanks for your opinions.

SQ says 610 is for upright touring style & 611 is for more aggressive MTB riding. Actually they both look quite similar in shape & padding. "Upright" 610 works great on the drops though Ti 611 saves 100 g for only 30€ more.

The C-17 does get demerits for long time durability of the cotton cover. If you look back at my photo you will see a cut in the fabric at the nose. There is also some fuzzing at the edges where cotton transitions to rubber.
