Bike touring in Korea in 1968

Stumbled onto this article about three Americans who rode the East coast of Korea in 1968 with locally made, steel bikes and almost zero preparation. Thought the forum might enjoy it.

Great story of their experience. Many times the most trying of times create the fondest of memories.

The ROK was a vastly different place back then. The Miracle on the Han was only a few years underway. You will recall that Park Chung Hee had come to power only six years earlier. I read the article as a tribute to the people of South Korea and their miraculous jump to what it is today, a First World country.

Wonderful! I especially loved the pictures of the guys 48 years later.

NO BIG DEAL but all the pictures seem to be reversed L/R.

Thanks for sharing this, a great read. My wife and I rode Busan up to the DMZ in October as part of a grand tour, and it's funny seeing photos that almost look familiar, apart from the dirt roads! It's a fabulous ride, amazing scenery and food and people. We did a circuit, Seoul to Incheon, down to Busan, up to Goseong and the DMZ, then back across to Seoul, 1,567km in all.
