NY to Nantucket
I'm planning to cycle with my new Volpe to Nantucket from NY next week.
What do you think the best way to plan a route for this. I'm a little lost when it comes to figuring out what roads to use.
Do you know of a good map that would show low traffic roads ?
Also i have done no training for this 254 mile trip.
Is there anyone out there who's done a trip without training.
Let me know.
MR LANT.

I've you've done no riding in a while, it will likely be painful.
If by NY you mean NY City, I would consider biking out Long Island and taking ferries part of the way. Assuming the ferries my atlas shows are still running, you could go from Montauk to Block Island, Block Island to Newport, then New Bedford to Martha's Vineyard, and then from Martha's Vineyard to Nantucket. I've taken the latter 2 ferries with my bike. You have to ride a few miles on MV to get from one ferry port to another. The bike ride from Newport to New Bedford is OK, but the year I did it, the ferry schedule was such that you had to reach New Bedford by 1pm if you didn't want to spend a night on MV.

Lanty,
I posted a thread in the general discussion about my MV vacation I took this past week. Wife and I brought along our bikes but were not touring. There might be some helpful links in it for you like the Steamship Authority ferries. I believe they leave out of woods hole for Nantucket.
