Can’t wait to read it on the big screen. I fortuitously met Casey at Elkhorn Hot Springs along the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway in MT in 2011. The GF and I were doing a loop tour out of Missoula. He approached me because I was wearing a cycling cap. Our route was supposed to include Skalkaho Pass, but the road was washed out and didn’t look like it would be open in time. I told him our plan B from Philipsburg, which involved all highway mileage, including some on I-90. After asking about the tires we were riding, he told me about Rock Creek Road, which turned out to be fabulous. I’ve ridden three times now, including back in June. Great guy.

Today (Sunday 11/9) there is an interesting article in the NYT on Sierra Club's flirtation with social justice and its negative impact on membership and budget.

Are you sure that's not an article about Adventure Cycling - just with the names changed to protect the innocent?

Here's a comment from the NYT column - it sounds exactly like some on this forum -

"I was a donor to the Sierra Club in the past. But when they took their eyes off the ball of protecting the environment to expand to a broad social justice movement they lost me. Sure, those causes need attention and support but the Sierra Club to me was always laser focused on preserving our wild, underdeveloped parks and lands and fighting fossil fuels. Especially now, with a government that is hell bent on exploiting and destroying our pristine lands, we need a strong advocate to fight back. Sadly, it’s no longer the Sierra Club."

Pretty much just a rehash of management's delusion. Disappointing.

Some other reader comments on that Sierra Club article:"also felt that the club suddenly began dismissing the efforts of older people, longtime supporters -- when its focus turned to "wokeism" it also turned to favoring the young and encouraging groups that excluded the old."

"Ah yes, the ageism that goes with these perspectives is alienating the very population they need for fundraising. Becoming "inclusive" should not mean pushing away supporters."

It was the lengthy reader "comments" section that interested me.

I didn't scroll down far enough. Thank you!

Reading that "the Sierra Club isn't just focused on environmentalism any more" is a trip because my Dad was a life member and back in the 90's he was upset it wasn't focused on backpacking any more. I have to wonder if he misunderstood its history, or if his perspective just flipped as he got older, stopped backpacking, retired, and listened all day to talk radio.
