any news about the Great Allegheny Passage?

I haven't seen any updates on the website about whether the trail is going to be completed this fall between Meyersdale and the Big Savage Tunnel. I was planning on riding it in November as a late seaon tour from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. Has anyone heard anything about the Meyersdale section opening this year?

Hi,

this link is from the GAP Yahoo group that explains that the Big Savage Tunnel is going to close (approximately) the week before thanksgiving.

This link is a report by a credible fellow that rode the whole trip in Sept, he has some interesting observations on trail status.

I had hoped to go in late October but it appears i'm going to be overcome by events.
Let us know how you make out.

The Riverside trail leaving Pittsburgh is incomplete. Eventually it will extend all the way to McKeesport and link with the Yough. River Trail. As it is, you have to travel for a handful of very dangerous miles down Carson Street and over some highway on-ramps. I do it a lot.

Incredibly, my roommate and I are also planning a trip from Pittsburgh to DC in November. I'm sending you a PM.

Just rode from Meyersdale to Mckeesport last week. We talked with a group of riders in Mckeesport who were on their way to Frostburg. They said the trail was open to Frostburg but the offical ribbon cutting won't be till next spring. From what I can gather talking to some of the locals, the major hangup is a railroad tunnel between Frostburg and Cumberland. Apparently there are still trains using the tunnel and it's a major issue on how to route bicycles through this tunnel.
