I often moo at cows, and particulary when they're in the road, at which point I ask them to MOOOOOOOOVE!

GiantDave 10-26-05 10:52 AM

Over the years Ive learned to speak fluent cow.

Jay H 10-26-05 11:44 AM

Yeah, all of you MOO at cows, but doesn't anybody also think.... Hamburger!?

Jay

va_cyclist 10-26-05 11:51 AM

I usually just yell "on your left, hotties" at them.

Bekologist 10-26-05 11:56 AM

Sometimes cows don't moo. They hum when they're happy.

I stopped and played harmonica to a bunch of Wisconsin heifers(you cheeseheads do have happy cows, right?) and a some of them moseyed right over.

"As I was a-ridin’ one mornin’ for pleasure
I spied a young cyclist come a-ridin’ along,
His helmet was throwed back and his chain was a-grindn’,
As he was a-ridin’ a–singin’ this song.
Whoopee ti yi yo, get along little doggies,
It’s your misfortune and none of my own,
Whoopie ti yi yo, get along little doggies
You know that Wyoming will be your new home…"

Do you suppose that maybe... perhaps ... it's things like this that encourage average people to think of cyclists as a touch odd?

We moo at cows for goodness sake!

And I don't know about ya'll but sometimes things just amuse me when I'm pedaling along and I can be seen, riding down the street with a big GRIN on my face.

LOL - it's no wonder!

Wind 'N Snow 10-26-05 01:58 PM

D'ya mean like, in the mall? or at an intersection?

tom cotter 10-26-05 02:46 PM

I alway moo at cows. I love their adoring looks.

Use to moo while in line at the movies or at theme park, you know, when the line just starts to move. I stopped after it became apparent that some of the other cattle in line didn't appreciate my sense of humor.

Mee too. Especially when there really were a number of bulls and cows in line.

CastIron 10-26-05 03:18 PM

I moo or do the Homer Simpson 'mmmmmmmmmm...beeeeeeeeeef' thing. Either way my wife thinks I'm just little off center.

Of course our cows are happy, ever see one that wasn't happy to see you?

......especially if they're the rare breed which is massaged and fed beer daily.... :D

Lolly Pop 10-26-05 06:09 PM

Yes, I moo at them. Here in cow central, that is a lot of mooing.

I also woof and quack.

>Do you suppose that maybe... perhaps ... it's things like this that encourage average people to think of cyclists as a touch odd?

I do not consider this odd. I think it is a perfectly reasonable way to greet these animals as we enter their "personal space".

Rogerinchrist 10-26-05 06:21 PM

I guess that because I grew up on a farm I'm not all that amooooosed here.

BTW I rarely moo at the cattle, if indeed I do feel the need to "comunicate" with 'em, I'll speek with them normaly. They are always just as responsive.

You do know that when you dine at one of those "grill your own" steakhouses your NOT supposed to bring your own!

Bikepacker67 10-26-05 06:27 PM

If it weren't for cyclists who would greet the cows?

Not too many folks walk for miles by farms.
The farmers are too busy to chat.
And the cagers just look at them thru climate controlled bubbles.

Cows produce more milk when grazing along major bike routes - I'm sure of it!

cc_rider 10-26-05 06:41 PM

I don't bother to moo at cows.

I sometimes moo at a herd of pedestrians when they are clogging the trails for no good reason.

I've heard that about the UW cheerleaders.

I moo at cows and stop and take their picture if I have my camera with me. I don't let my wife moo at them any more because they start to follow us and there's a no cow rule in town and we couldn't afford to feed them anyway.

RegularGuy 10-26-05 09:56 PM

My favorite Far Side cartoon:

A car full of cow driving through the city. Lots of people on the sidewalks. Young cow leaning out the back window yelling "BLAH BLAH BLAH" at the people.

Cracks me up.

Needless to say, I moo. I bark at squirrels.

It's the only way I've found to get them to move.

SteveFox 10-26-05 10:05 PM

I do. Apparently i'm pretty good at it too. And also, mine sounds like a cow mating call...cause wel, it attracts the bulls....i dunno.
