Joining the Truckers: Did a very extensive sizing tonight and looks like a 50cm LHT Complete will be here Friday...to be stripped immediately and rushed to the powder coating shop...

How much does powder coating cost generally? I want to drink the Kool-Aid too, but don't like the colour and like a little kid it matters..:p

Unfortunately, powder coating prices can be all over the map. I've heard from guys who've said that a powder coating shop quoted them over $300 to strip and 'coat a frame.

I think that's ridiculous.

Then again, I'll bet that shop doesn't do many bicycles and can't see 'em as a profit generator.

The shop I work with has done two frame/fork jobs for me. Both needed stripped, one a little and one (my Goat/Big Dummy) a LOT. Prices for those two jobs were approximately $100 and $200, with the Goat being the higher-priced job.

They like doing frames/forks: lots of bicycle samples are hanging on the walls. And they're nice people, too.

Worth it? Well, it is to me. I've heard mixed reviews about factory paint and powder coats and I'm a somewhat picky, artsy-fartsy dude, so it's worth it to me as a longer term investment on two levels:

1. I know the quality and reputation of my local powder coater's work, and
2. I also enjoy the blessing of a personalized color choice. I get to make it 'mine'.

All this is unnecessary, of course, in the big picture. But, if you can afford the Kool-Aid...

Just one guy's opinion.

What kind of time does it take to get it done? A few hours, day, week, etc. I see you are in the mid-west, what state? I might be interested in using your shop... Thanks.:)

I don't know what actual time is. My understanding is the blasting/media removal can be time-consuming (and co$tly). The Goat had a couple hours of blasting time, if I remember right.

Streetwerkz.com is the shop I use in Columbus, Ohio. Tell 'em the guy with that 'long-ass Jet Black bike' sent you...

For those that know (1%) what the COC is I touched it (#3) once last summer. I am a little freak (6'1" and currently 207) with a good :p crush grip (think handshake). http://www.ironmind.com/ironmind/ope...nsofcrush.html
I can get the #2 for 12.

That's great, Meek!

Just finished my build. I love it.

Not that I have ridden anything similar to compare it to, but I love my LHT. It's a 52. Even though I'm 5'9'' my inseam is about 29-30'' and the effective top tube length runs a bit long on the truckers so it ends up working well with my stubby legs long torso body. Also, the new white color is really awesome.

LucasA, that's one fine looking bike!

I will pick up my size 58 on Monday, I hope, Probably in the snow.
I was torn between a 58 and a 60, I ordered the Blue in 700c wheel set.
Something tells me, that if I ever own a bicycle that could come between me and everything else, this may be it.
I have a nice dry place to keep it until I can ride it, I will be installing racks and fenders this winter.
NEVER have I been so anxious for a bicycle, or ,,,,,anything as far as that goes.

Nycycle 10-24-10 08:39 PM

Tell me, where'd ya get them fenders????
