valygrl hope you are enjoying the city! It has been gorgeous here for some time.
To the OP, I'd definitely go south no matter what time of year. The oceanside is much nicer, especially through Big Sur where you have a superior shoulder and more opportunities to turn off and enjoy the view. Expect slides in Pacfica, Big Sur, and occasionally in the area south of Lompoc.
If you go, I hope you have a fabulous time!

We rode that section this past summer. I would definitely do North to South. For me it is the spectacular views that come from highway 1. I loved how many times you were just so close to the edge.
