Bottom bracket stiffness

Greetings. Been reading the forum now as I am interested in Touring. From what I've read the frame that seems to be right for me is the Surly LHT. My question is how stiff is the bottom bracket? I am fairly big and strong and can make cranks hit the frame on regular steel road frames. I know I won't be 'racing' on this frame often. , but nevertheless would like to know during a hard climb that I won't be losing paint and fatiguing the frame around the BB. Thanks.
