Jamis Aurora Tire Fender Clearance
Bear with me here. This will be my once a year loaded tourer and foul weather commuter and I can't find any recent posts or information regarding how big of a tire I can run on a 2006 or 2007 Jamis Aurora with cantilever brakes. I've had lots of luck finding out that the older Auroras had caliper brakes and barely enough clearance for fenders with 700x28 tires. The newer Auroras supposedly have better clearance.
How much clearance will I likely have with Vittoria 700x35/37c Randonneur Pros and full fenders?

I have that big of a tire available and sitting around unused. I also have a hand built 36-spoke Bontrager Maverick on Ultegra wheelset that I want to use. Both were used for a dozen foul weather rides on my Soma Double Cross last season and the beefy tires work really well out here where they put sand on the roads all winter long. There is also no curb and gutter out here in the sticks.
I'm tired of swapping out the "loaded" wheels and removing both the fenders and the rack every time I want to do a little cyclocross racing. I ride 2-3 races in a month, then I've got to put them back on, and in the meantime I'm left without fenders or a rack for commuting.
These tires and wheels are just too nice to go unused, I don't want to consider a touring rig that won't take them, and I can't afford to go custom. I need a ~535 mm Top Tube and a standover less than 31 inches for a good fit and I like the color and specs on the Aurora better than those of the Fuji Touring.
Doesn't anybody out there have an Aurora with full fenders and a ruler to measure some clearances?

Depending on the fender you use, you should be able to fit these tires.

Cool
Wow, the Jamis people read (and answer) the forum. Don't see many responses from the trekies (live long and prosper!)

I went down with my wheels and calipers to check the clearance on Friday. The Vittoria 700x35/37c Randonneur Pros measure 33-34mm wide and they cleared the rear stays on a 55cm frame by 7-8mm on each side. They cleared the fork by a mm or so more. I think rear fender clearance would be the limiting factor and leave one with a maximum tire size of about 38mm.

I just mounted Shwalbe Marathon 700x35 tires and still had good enough clearance for some Planet Bike fenders. It looks like you could even go a bit bigger if needed. My Aurora is a 2007 model.
