Brakes for an old trek 520
I plan on converting an old 520 from 27 in to a 700 wheel. What would be the best brakes
to use to accomidate the smaller wheel? Do V brakes have enough adjustment capacity and are
they easier to adjust than canti's?

Are you sure the existing brakes can't be adjusted to fit the new wheels? There's not a huge difference between 27 and 700 wheels, and most brakes will be able to handle the change.

I converted a Trek 614 frame from 27" to 700 and found that standard (long) reach shimano brakes where just a bit too short. I filed the adjustment slots about 1/8" longer and they now work fine. An old Raleigh Supercourse made the change without any brake alterations at all. You won't know whether cantis or V-brakes will work until you test fit them. Just make sure the vendor has a return policy before you order, then experiment until you find something that works.
