Atlantic coast route maps

Does anyone have a quality link for atlantic coast route maps? I would love to have the ACA maps, but they are super pricey, and having just purchased airfare for my trip, my budget just dissapeared. As of now my travel buddy has the book "Bicycling the Atlantic coast" but I wouldn't call those maps very well made. Anyone who could point me in the right direction, or maybe has a set of ACA maps they don't need...please let me know.

Thanks,
Karl

At the risk of overestimating your financial condition , $80 for the full set is a little expensive, but not bad for a 2-month trip. Keep in mind that it's more than just a street map, they include locations of hotels, campsites, shops, restaurants, bike shops, and sometimes elevations.

Even if you can't pony up for the maps, I highly recommend that you set aside funds for contingencies. It's inevitable that you will have unforseen expenses for a trip that long.

Besides, it'd probably cost you $50 to print out all of Steven's (probably copyright-violating, and certainly less informational and useful) version of the ACA maps on a home inkjet printer....

As best I can tell, your only other option here is to get a road atlas for $15-20 and figure out the route yourself.

Advertise for a set of used AC maps on the AC forums, on the crazy guy site, and here; or buy them new and resell to recoup some of the money. The AC maps are typically well worth it for a long trip.

Disclaimer: I don't have first hand experience with that route.

State of Maine Tourism Bureau has a free cycling book.
If you do come up here, I have some suggestions.

I won't be going that far north. I'm starting in Savannah, GA and heading to NYC.

Karl, its worth contacting ACA, I know they are a great group of people and that they do hand out free maps on occasion (or at least their information on their website indicates this in their not-for-profit accounting graph). Perhaps they would work with you on the price of maps if you stated your case to them. It's worth a try. Good luck, we might see you on the road since we will be on this path from may 13 till July 1st (we are going from Miami to Maine so we will be on many of the same roads).

Also google the motor vehicle departments, and tourism departments of the states you are traveling through, most of them have road maps ( some of them showing bike routes ) that they will send you for free.

Do you have any friends or family members who are members of AAA? If so, get them to get you some highway maps for free/low cost. I used this method to go cross country, coupled with some additional detail maps for larger cities.

I have only used the Pacific Coast Adventure Cycling maps, but found them to be very helpful. They also were the only thing remaining after my tour - my other paper maps were either worn away, torn or crumbling from getting wet in my bags.
