Information changes but good luck to both of you. I came into Vietnam from Laos and cycled north aloing the coast route, cutting inland in small loops along the way. People were nice. Good food too, and alot of fellow cyclists on the road.

The rainy season begins in Springtime. I had rain, but it wasn't bad, more like a steady mist. Occasional downpours which were a howl to ride through.

Avoid the police at all costs. They will steal things, and try and force you from inexpensive guest housing/rooms into expensive hotels where they get a cut.

Check out this previous thread here: https://www.bikeforums.net/touring/92752-cycling-vietnam.html

It is from 2005 but offers lots of advice.
