My elitist definition of bicycle touring starts with self supported fully equipped bicycle travel activities on or offroad for shorter or longer periods of time followed in descending order by, credit card touring and then the mostly externally supported and social events listed above.

I don't think there is anything wrong with these kind of tours but, I think you gotta have TOSRV in the mix.
https://www.tosrv.org/09/index.htm
But I would have to say that my idea of "touring" includes the following:
- No registration fee
- Carry your own stuff, if overnight (unless your my wife, then I'll happily carry it)
- No SAG Vehicle
- Leave from your own garage most of the time
I do a few organized rides and I honestly think the best part about them is that 3,000 people on the rode at once let all the drivers know it's a bad idea to drive fast today.

Well if you rode the routes a month before (or a month after) the organized event they'd probably be great rides

Does anyone have information about good cycling routes along the Amtrac line from DC to New Orleans? Hop on for the bad sections, hop off to ride scenic sections to the next train stop. The plan is to cycle around half of the 1000 mile distance.
