LHT decal removal

Has anyone removed the decals from their LHT (or other Surly)? What method did you use? How difficult was it?

Thanks

I scraped mine off with a plastic butter knife. Worked ok, but I had to to scrape pretty hard at points leaving some light scuffing on the paint. I didnt care, but if you do, some people when I asked suggested heating them up with a blow drier, or wiping them with acetane. Search the forums for surly decal removal, youll find a bunch of posts and recommendations.

Scraped them off my Surly Pacer with an old credit card and a hair dryer. Came right off, no damage to the paint.

Blow dryer and plastic knife...not sure how long it took...fifteen or twenty min.?

WD 40 is really good for removing any remaining adhesive.

I used duct tape and just stuck it on and pulled it off and presto chango!!
It was accidental at first, and then I just kept going.

Thanks everyone. Hey combat the bike looks great. Very clean lines.

I took mine off the same way as #3 but now am wondering about the front "S" badge. Has anyone removed it? How?

twodeadpoets 09-15-08 09:30 PM

I took most of the "Long Haul Trucker" sticker off with my thumb nail and I bet "Goo Gone" would work as well.

Lou627 09-15-08 09:47 PM

the surly badge pulls right off. wd40 or goo gone to get off the stickyness

I just tried combatdecoy's duct tape method on my wife's LHT and am reporting that it worked perfectly! No potentially messing up your bike's paint w/heat, no messy liquidy stuff, and no digging logo junk from under your fingernails.

BTW nice bike combat!

Aint it nice!!
I'm very happy it worked for you. The way I discovered it was total fluke.
When I brought my bike home the fellas at the shop left the plastic protection strip on(the one underneath the x'tra spokes)
When I pulled it off, some of the "fff" came off. So I took the piece of clear plastic, and used it to remove what else I could. Then grabbed some duct tape to finish it off.
Now go ride incognito!

The tools I used:

1. Blow dryer
2. The edge of an old DVD
3. Goo Gone

It worked well. No damage to the paint.
It took about a hour. Will try the tape method
next time.

damn, that many people have unlabeled lhts? Guess its cooler to put mine back on now.

Hofweber 09-16-08 12:23 AM

Make up your own label, or be careful and rearrange the stickers. making it just spell "gone" is copyright.

Hmm..doesn't void the warranty, does it?

Get a NEXT or Huffy decal. Keep the thieves away.

I like the lack of identification very much.... here's my newly built Cross Check:

Since the picture I've also taken off the Surly head tube badge, as well as the 'fatties fit fine' stickers.

GearsForFears 09-20-08 06:33 AM

The Surly decals are so ugly they're cool. I wish I could find a way to make mine show up better. I may remove the "fatties fit fine" though. On my very PC college campus people are misunderstanding and taking offense.
