LHT decal removal
Has anyone removed the decals from their LHT (or other Surly)? What method did you use? How difficult was it?
Thanks

I scraped mine off with a plastic butter knife. Worked ok, but I had to to scrape pretty hard at points leaving some light scuffing on the paint. I didnt care, but if you do, some people when I asked suggested heating them up with a blow drier, or wiping them with acetane. Search the forums for surly decal removal, youll find a bunch of posts and recommendations.

Scraped them off my Surly Pacer with an old credit card and a hair dryer. Came right off, no damage to the paint.

I used duct tape and just stuck it on and pulled it off and presto chango!!
It was accidental at first, and then I just kept going.

I took mine off the same way as #3 but now am wondering about the front "S" badge. Has anyone removed it? How?

I took most of the "Long Haul Trucker" sticker off with my thumb nail and I bet "Goo Gone" would work as well.

I just tried combatdecoy's duct tape method on my wife's LHT and am reporting that it worked perfectly! No potentially messing up your bike's paint w/heat, no messy liquidy stuff, and no digging logo junk from under your fingernails.
BTW nice bike combat!

Aint it nice!!
I'm very happy it worked for you. The way I discovered it was total fluke.
When I brought my bike home the fellas at the shop left the plastic protection strip on(the one underneath the x'tra spokes)
When I pulled it off, some of the "fff" came off. So I took the piece of clear plastic, and used it to remove what else I could. Then grabbed some duct tape to finish it off.
Now go ride incognito!

The tools I used:
1. Blow dryer
2. The edge of an old DVD
3. Goo Gone
It worked well. No damage to the paint.
It took about a hour. Will try the tape method
next time.

I like the lack of identification very much.... here's my newly built Cross Check:
Since the picture I've also taken off the Surly head tube badge, as well as the 'fatties fit fine' stickers.

The Surly decals are so ugly they're cool. I wish I could find a way to make mine show up better. I may remove the "fatties fit fine" though. On my very PC college campus people are misunderstanding and taking offense.
