Bike Fitting

I've never paid $200 for a custom fitting session at my LBS. But am wondering who has and their opinion of it. I've always felt comfortable and efficient with my own tweekings, until I took my first century on the new LHT (my safari was recently stolen, so I went the surly way) and had a little knee pain.
I know that touring prefers a more upright body position and brooks saddles tend to sit slightly nose up on some people.

Anyway, love to hear some thoughts on spending the time and money on a fitting and if there is a more touring friendly equation for it.
