Trying to plan out my first tour
I've decided to pull a tour here in Okinawa Japan. I want to travel from one of the bases in Mid to South area to Motobu Port. I haven't figured out the distance but I think it's about 70 to 80 km the way I have to travel. Pretty hilly as well. The touring bike will be a Dahon Speed TR folding bike.
From there I'm going to take the bike across on a ferry to Ie Shima Island which is about 35 minutes by boat. I intend to meet my family and vehicle at the port so I can float my bike across in the car. Then I plan to ride around Ie Shima maybe the following day which is no mean feat. Small island and probably won't take too long. Not too horribly hilly either on the perimeter. Just in a couple places.
Then reverse the process coming back.
I'm thinking I can travel light because I can have my family take off a few hours behind me and the worst thing thing that can happen is me getting stuck for an hour or so at a noodle shop or on the beach somewhere.
I'm thinking just a Topeak DXP bag with some tools, tubes, clothes, powerbars, cell phone, camera, etc. I realize the distance isn't prohibitive but it'll be my first "tour" so to speak. I routinely ride for 2-3 hours and 50-60 km. and this isn't much further but I've never pulled an overnighter anywhere.
The overnighter will be at a resort hotel and again my bike storage will be in our car. Not that anybody on Ie Shima island would take anything anyway. It's a wonderful place.
If there's something I'm not thinking of let me know.
