Front Rack on a 2009 Novara Safari

I'm going to be touring across the US this summer and was thinking about getting the '09 Safari as I have heard it is a good, reliable bike. I am concerned with mounting a front rack because of the brake assembly.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Also, would you recommend the Safari as a good bike for a cross country tour?

Thanks.

check out the OMMRacks. I got a front Sherpa, this one looks like a good choice.

I haven't ridden a Safari but the only reason I could imagine looking at other bikes is if you weigh 125lbs and don't see yourself carrying more than 25lbs otherwise it looks like a great choice for carrying heavy loads securely.

The Tubus Tara from The Touring Store is one of the standards for the Safari.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

I have a Tara on a Novara Randonee, for what that's worth, and can vouch for the rack - it's a good, solid rack, and I've never had any problems with it.

Take a look at the familyonbikes.org blog to see what the Vogels are using on their Safari. That`s one of the bikes they`re using for the Alaska to Argentina ride that they started last Fall. The mom from that team also posts here as NancySV (but I`m not sure what`s capitolized) and often answers equipment questions.

I have a 2007 Safari and use a Tubus Tara I got from the Touring Store. Check it out at www.thetouringstore.com

I toured the Pacific Coast with no problems.
