Potholed, is my LHT still rideable?

Could you post this question in the Framebuilder's forum with a picture and mentioning where you are? It might be helpful in getting their opinions on whether the frame is rideable in your circumstance or repairable in any circumstance.

You should really keep the parts. Why sell them if you can still use them?
And really, keep the frame as a souvenir.
Friends might wanna have a look at it someday when you talk about your epic adventure.

Yeah right. Biggest load of hogwash I've heard on this thread yet!

Interesting thread. Glad the tour ended on a high note.
Man, those are the worst welds evar!
On long tours, I always carry bailing wire. Ever since I saw some amazing jury rigging out in the mountains of BC. Old timers had everything held together with the stuff -- pickup trucks, farm equipment ....
So I've always figured, if a tube ever separated from a lug, or something like the catastrophe illustrated here, I could find something to reinforce the tube and wrap it in bailing wire. I betcha that'd be a better solution than those "welds" which probably further weakened the frame!

Keep it all. Frame goes on the wall, around a picture of you, the bike & Mao. Or you, the bike and all all your crap spread over the road just past the pothole.

Congrats, btw!
Bailing wire is the old timer's JB Weld. Unfortunately it's a whole lot harder to find in an urban environment...

re: 1st page - gear 30 Kg, rider 70 Kg. I'd guess the bike around 12 Kg. So that's about 250 lbs for you metricly (sp?) challenged folk.
Cheez, that's my rider weight.

Keep that frame. Have a nice, polished wooden wall hanger rack made for it, get some track lighting with soft bulbs to moodily pop it off the wall. Print all the forum advice about how foolish it is to ride it like that, frame them and put them next to it.
The next trick is to ignore it when guests come over. Just shrug it off, explain that it has some "slight" sentimental value.

Why wouldn't you just buy a new LHT frameset and keep on truckin? If you're selling them, I'd still keep everything, somebody, somewhere wants the stuff. If nothing else, you can throw in freebies. There's no point in throwing out good parts!
