Surly owners are a breed all their own. I getting ready to buy my second. Many of us also seem unable to buy the best bike for the job. I'm getting a steamroller so I can ride it off-road and dedicate my cross check to commuting and light-touring.

that is a terrible thing to do to a monkey......but hey......different strokes. if someone wants to ride a 3 speed fixie you manually shift by lifting the chain and no front brake and ape hanger handlebars on skinny road tires, then more power to them.

How about 500 words about the inside of this old refrigerator. There is no brand or model showing, so I am not shilling for anything or anyone!

This thread is pretty mean. The guy wanted to show a picture of an adventure ride he had.

I don't see how you can't get that.

Really. Totally. Completely. Mean.

I'll stick to C&V and find a better forum if I want to talk touring.

Good job, guys!

The first page seems to be more or less people bashing the OP's picture.

Bashing? I think it was all done in fun. I looked back and I do not see a mean spirited comment. I see ribbing. This is a forum and that does happen when you post a picture and ask open ended questions.

I think you could have gotten more mileage out of it, if you'd included a cute girl in the pic. That always helps. Also, if you took a hacksaw, and cut out that section of the downtube that has the logo, for reasons completely unexplained, that might generate some "imaginative responses". Not that that's necessarily a good thing, mind you. I'm just sayin.

Actually, it probably would make a decent trunk bag. You could use the crisper drawers for panniers.

Its a GE. Made between 1963-1965. 17 cu.ft. Freezer on bottom. Foot lever to open door. Absolutely NOT frost free. Must have worn out 2 hairdryers defrosting that POS. Uses at least twice as much electricity as my current 30 cu ft GE freezer. Pretty noisy to boot.

BTW, is "a picture with a thousand words" worth 2000 words?

I don't think it's exactly 2000 words. There's some depreciation so you have to multiply 1000 by .667 and subtract the number of prepositional phrases in the first 1000 words then add these two together. That should get you in the right ballpark, unless of course the picture is blurry, which messes everything up.

Not really. You just use teh internetz speak.

Of course, since there would then be no prepositional phrases, you'd need to multiply by *1.1415, to get a "true" adjusted word count.

[*most experts tend to use a conservative estimate, by rounding down to "1.14"]

My Grandparents had one of those. The shelves swivel so you can reach the stuff at the back easier.

Apologies to Oscar Hammerstein II:

Oh I love to be riding my Surly,
How I love to be riding my Surly,
I'll be out and riding my Surly in the rain and the slop,
My pretty little Surly with the grunge on the top.
