Umm, no. There's a separate zippered access "porthole" from inside the tent to the bike vestibule, according to REI product description. It's not a full size door though. Mountain Hardwear web site mentions one door (on the other side) only, but you can see the bike vestibule side has a zipper too in their pics.

Jusy lay the bike down and tie a string from the bike to your toe. Cover it up with something. The bike I mean.

i dont like the idea of leaving my bike outside the tent, wherever i decide to camp. do any of you store your touring bikes inside your tents whilst you get some sleep? i've never heard about anyone keeping their bike in their tent, but it seems like a much safer option.. i've read some horror stories about people waking up in campgrounds to find that their bikes have disappeared.
is it simply a case of not having enough room in the tent for all your bags and your bike.. or is there some other reason why this isn't a good idea?

I have brought my bike in for safety, occasionally, and once or twice to get it out of the rain when I was convinced my bike had a soul and I could get good karma points for doing it. I took off both wheels and the seat, to make it more compact.
It is only safer in a campground in the 'out of sight out of mind' sense, though, since it'd be pretty easy to go into your tent and huff off with the bike over your shoulder or toss it onto the back of a pickup.

As noted above bike stolen in Mongolia:
"Before going to sleep on Saturday night I had locked my bicycle to my tent. The next thing I knew, I was woken up by the sounds of galloping hooves and ripping canvas. This being Mongolia, rather than cutting the lock, the thief had tied the bike to his horse with a rope before charging off and tearing my tent in two."

This is partly for my logic of stealth camping. I figure... I could buy a lock. Someone could probably cut through it if they wanted to. Or they could cut down the tree it was locked to... So I plan on camping out of site of everyone.

String weighs nothing.Tie a string onto your tent stake. When they try to steal it,your tent shakes, you go out, knife in hand, and find out whats going on.

I lock my bike to something solid, or lock two bikes together (front to rear) with the cable going through the wheels. They would have to pick the whole "wad" of bikes up and carry them off. If a pro wanted the bikes they would not have much trouble, but it discourages opportunistic thieves. I've done quite a bit of touring in the U.S. and Canada, and have not heard of anyone getting their bike stolen while camping. Unfortunately, there have been several stolen when stopping in the larger cities around here (Portland and Eugene).

I use a 2 man tent for myself and gear and (bought on sale at nashbar) a bike cover. The cover folds into a small package with its own cover. I put all the expensive stuff in the tent and cable lock the bike to the table.

I don't camp where my bike would be stolen. If I didn't like the campground, I would move on down the raod and stealth camp. I have never sayed in a campground where I felt the least uncomfortable.

Whatever, I choose to stealth sleep in a sleeping bag (not in a tent) which I feel gives me a greater chance of defending myself in the (very unlikely) case of being attacked and also to protect my bike in the (very unlikely) case that someone tries to steal it while I'm asleep. No big deal

I got a three man tent where I can put all the stuff that I carry on my bike, leaving plenty of room for the rider, but the bike itself stays outside locked against a pole or tree. The idea of taking the bike inside to me sounds like letting a mule or a horse lay in your tent....

The European solution is:
Bike Pyjamas - Which is a fitted cover over the bike(s), they weigh very little and can double up as a picnic blanket for lunch, or even an emergency shelter for humans

A Dog Spike - For security, put the dog spike in the ground and then put the normal lock onto the spike.

is that like the 8 man tepee coz it shure ain't a hootch!
I've not yet found the tipi shelter large enough for me and the bike and feel comfortable, just too low inside. I've tried
Golite, Black Diamond, Moss (remember Moss, the Superfly? I think they called it?) and they are all too tight for my liking unless dug in.
I'm thinking of trying an Oware pyramid in something drab and silnylonish....
how about these setups. bike under tarp or with bike as part of tarp support (the bike had been under the tarp with me helping holding it up in the right pics) stealth camp, sleep with bike. don't tell the wife

well I have a hogan ultralight which to me is brill. On the subject of bikes though, I, when wild camping just lay the bike down in the grass, or if near a tree, lock onto it.......but to be honest you should camp discreetly. I have never ever had any problem ........but then again I am not very paranoic so maybeI should not comment on this

o.k., now I begin to understand why so many of you either want to take your bikes in your tent or cover it with kind of bed sheets - because your girlfriends and wives don't like bike touring and stay at home?

Srsly? You think someone would cut through a lock on a bike when you are sleeping right next to it? (without you waking up?) Assuming you aren't sleeping in the middle of a crackhead park in a big city I'd wager pretty big odds against that ever happening.

I agree. I have heard of a few bikes stolen in the US when on tour, but they were all in large towns or cities and were all also on stops during the day rather than at night in camp. I take as little into the tent at night as possible and leave the panniers on the bike and loaded. Depending on where I am I may or may not bother to lock the bike. I do take my handlebar bag with me at all times since it has most of the theft worthy stuff. Using a bike and gear I can afford to replace makes this less worrisome and is a plus to me.
