J & G-- They work great. However, they look better when they are on straight. The covers get quite a bit of use during the winter.

I carry a shower cap in my rain jacket pocket and put it on over my cap when it rains.

As for shower caps, I find the clear one to be the best looking one.

Been a long-time user of shower caps. You have to get the right size to fit the helmet and visor if you have one fitted. A clear on lets you use a helmet light at the same time (protects the light as well).

The protection from cold wind is a factor often underestimated, even when it's not raining. The old maxim is that much of the body's heat is lost through the head, so reducing that has an effect on the rest of the body -- and it does seem so to me.

My concern about a hood is the reduction in hearing ability, particularly vehicles from behind. Plus I like to have full head movement. In the orchard in wet winters, I can't wait to get jacket hoods off my head when it stops raining.

I still can't say that either clear or yellow is doing it for me. I mean, on the road, I don't care what I look like. But in the shop I do. :) Don't suppose I can find one in white with black racing stripes...

The clear freebies from the hotel practically disappear, once they're wet. I usually poke a few vent holes in it to let a little air pass through and the steam out.

Black can of spray paint and a little masking tape on a white showercap should do the trick!

Damn... as a gamer and mario fan I can't imagine a better method of protection.

I usually don't wear a helmet, I don't seem to be any more likely to go down when it rains, and I do think there is an increased risk of collision, but that calls for a real helmet, not a shower cap over a fake one. So without that to worry about, I wear the hood on my jacket. One reason not to wear a hood in the helmet is if you don't have one of those pinhead sized heads. Most headware is useless before you even get that far out on the Bell curve.

OK raingear is Often yellow so the above picture matches the jacket.

Cycle caps could be made out of a Goretex breathable fabric.. but the choice is rare.

They look ridiculous but seem practical. I sweat a ton so on warmer days I would probably forgo something like this and go with an eVent or Gore-Tex helmet cover but this is certainly cheaper. Though I put my helmet over my hood in rainy weather if I need too so I wouldn't really need either so much.

I have used a shower cap for a long time while riding in rain, which we do a lot around here. They are so cheap and effective, I can not justify a bicycle shop helmet cover.

No don't do that. If you aren't using it as part of your stay there then leave it. The hotel pays to replace what you use, or take.

I much prefer a Halo or Pearl Izumi beanie under my helmet. Keeps me warm in the rain and still allows air circulation. They dry quickly.

Because we all know the occasional used shower cap is sending hotels rates sky high.

The hood is about keeping the rain out of your shirt. More than a few times I've ridden with the hood pulled up under my helmet and a shower cap over my helmet.

The helmet straps do a pretty good job of keeping the sides of the hood pressed down and not obscuring your view.
