Cycling the Med in Spain

Hi,
Has anyone here ever toured along the Mediterranean in Spain, i.e. from Tarifa in the south up to Barcelona and beyond in the north?

Is it possible to follow the National coast roads without them suddenly turning into motorways where bikes are forbidden? That's happened to me several times down in the south of Spain now, e.g. the A382 from Arcos de la Frontera to Jerez de la Frontera and the A376 from Sevilla to Utrera.

I don't mind a small detour now and then but huge detours into the Sierras don't seem appealing at this time of year. If anyone has any info, I'd be most grateful.

Cheers,
David

Hi David, we did this right at the start of our world tour. I can't say I totally recommend it. From Malaga to Barcelona is a long strip of holiday resorts and busy roads. You can avoid the motorways but the traffic is still very, very heavy and the towns and cities mostly charmless. Oh, there are a few gems here and there. Once you get about 100km north of Barcelona things thin out a bit and in France it's fine but overall, I don't remember it as a highlight of our trip.

If you go to https://travellingtwo.com/map and zoom in on Spain, you can see the points along our route and read the journal entries.
