battery chargers
Hey people,
when touring we don't want to take along too many electronic devices, HONEST.
We only took one camera (Canon S3 IS)
Then...
We started taking another camera a Nikon D40.
Then, we started taking our iPods, and now we've just bought a Polaroid Pogo for those trips where we meet people that are not used to having pictures of themselves.
We've started thinking of buying two e-ink readers (to lighten the load (lol), two kindles are FAR lighter then at least ten fat books).
Now, we don't plan on taking all of those all the time, but depending on our destination and plans it could be a subset or all of those.
Now the problem is obvious to anyone by now: chargers...
Even at home chargers are nuisances.
What we would like: an universal charger capable of most (if not all) of the following feats:
1) universal power, i.e. 110-220V 50Hz-60Hz, 12VDC and whatever else we humans have come up with (accepting power from a hub-dynamo would have me buying buying one charger AND a new wheel).
2) universal loader: capable of charging all kinds of batteries,
at least AA's, EN-EL9 (D40), 2ATL462849-ALP 7.4V 450mAh (Pogo), USB connection (iPod etc.)
3) small, light etc.
now we've found this: https://www.delkin.com/store/eu/produ...cat=103&page=1
and it looks as if it's almost there:
feat 1: alllllmost check!
feat 2: 2 out of 4
feat 3: check.
However, there are no charging plates for the Pogo battery AND no USB options.
I've tried contacting them asking them if USB and Pogo are forthcoming, but no reaction.
I've got this strange feeling that there are no new options forthcoming.
Has anybody here a better solution?
Or has anybody had experience with this device / manufacturer?
advice on directions to look for solutions?
etc. etc.
Thanks!

i don't know if this might help, i got this charger unit called eCharge. designed in france, made in china (no surprises!)
https://www.e-charge.fr/
they may have a variety of output adapters for your pogo... which i've never heard before!

LOL... no surprises indeed on the manufacturing side.
The polaroid pogo is a portable printer, printing photo's on stickers 5 * 7,5 cm (or something like that) in not too bad quality (mmmrrhhhmmm, for low expectations of quality anyway).
It's primary function for us is being able to give people a photo of themselves when we encounter them, like people in remote villages in Indonesia or the Ecuadorian jungle.
The eCharge sounds interesting. Just fired of an email to ask if out Nikon D40 and Poloraid Pogo batteries are supported.
Thanks.

Just to answer myself here a tiny bit:
the eCharge is interesting, BUT:
as far as I can get it it's just an external battery, capable of charging devices that can be charged with their battery in the device itself.
now, those things are not bad, but that would mean that e.g. I would have to tether our D40 to it after the internal battery was empty (it cannot recharge batteries inside itself).

AvatarWorf: That's the kind of system we would like to build / buy (probably combination of both).
But seeing as we're both Dutch we won't buy a new wheel until / unless it's necessary.
plus: an universal charger has other uses:
when at home: no other chargers needed: no clutter etc.
when traveling without bikes: I think we would look kinda silly bringing a front wheel with us (LOL).

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG
B&M (purveyor of fine cycle lighting) have come up with a gizmo called an E-werk You will have to dig around and find out if it is compatible with your battery charging needs. I can see several possibilities for me with it.

Aaron,
thanks, interesting...
it would entail us bringing a second charger for the camera's (D40 and AA batteries can't be charged directly by the device).
Even though it says it'll work with a bottle dynamo I don't think that that will be very fast / efficient.
And my remarks regarding new wheels still stands and off bicycle use still stand.
However: sometimes you have to look at things from another direction...
