150 Mile Weekend Ride Around Lake Pontchartrain - New Orleans Area
Saturday (March 6th) was an awesome Spring day down in South Louisiana. Light winds 5-10 (more near the lakes) and not a cloud in the sky. 61F in the shade, warm enough for summer wear in the sun. Rode the new Cinelli SuperCorsa (photo attached). There was suffering, but all in all a nice day on a sweet bike.
9 hours 3 minutes of riding. Average 16.3 mph. A couple hours of short pit stops along the way. The bike got a lot of attention at a big festival in one of the small towns I stopped in. The bladed spokes where a big hit.
Google Map
I am posting this in:
Commuting - because my daily riding plays a huge part in getting in the miles as I often crack out 20-50 bonus miles on the way in to work. Plus, all of my friends are here.
Long Distance Cycling - obviously
Road Bikes - because I rocked the new steel road bike all day.
Touring - because this ride makes an awesome 2 - day ride with camping at local State Parks. I have biked some variation of this route, clockwise and counter-clockwise at least a hundred times on various bikes dripping with panniers full of camping gear. The Google Map link is mostly for you folks!

That's a great writeup and report Joey. Do you roll directly from the house? This looks like a fantastic ride. I did notice that your route didn't swing by Cafe Dumond; I'm guessing that traffic would be tough on a bike rider over that way.

Awesome ride! I just moved to New Orleans in October (toured here and ended up staying) and have been wondering about good rides in the area. This looks perfect!

Cafe Dumonde would have put me about 10 miles out of my way. Even if the wait staff were all exotic dancers and the food was free, I would not have added 10 more miles. I was cooked.

I have been putting in some time on weekdays (closed Wednesday) at Bicycle Michael's on Frenchmen Street. Drop by some time and I will give you more ideas. Call first to make sure I am there. Ask for Joey.
