Count me in here, I do love my Long Haul Trucker, I love the ride and what seems to be a great deal of care in craftsmanship.
Mine is used for hauling groceries, hardware, and just running around, Once a year I load up with camping gear and we go some places for a few days.
I pull a BOB.
EDIT:::S::: I am hoping this thread comes back to life,,,,,,,

I rode my SLHT on a self-contained tour from Prudhoe Bay to Kelso, WA this summer; 3,000 miles in two months. It performed very well. Two other members of our eight person group also had SLHT's and they all performed quite well.
It's not a light bike; when I bring it out to club rides, my friends tease me by saying I brought my "truck." With the Surly nice racks it weighs in at about 34 lbs.
I built it up with the help of a friend--we even cut the stem ourselves.
I've got bar-end shifters, XT drivetrain with a 22 for a small chain ring and a 34 cog cassette which came in really useful when going up 2+ mile 17% unpaved grades on the Dalton highway. I've also got a reverse return rear derailer, i.e. when you release tension, it climbs into a bigger cassete in the back. This makes it easier to shift under load and it also makes it easy to downshift with bar end shifters--you just press down with the heel of your hand. I've also got V-brakes. My 48 spoke Velocity Dyad wheels with White Industry hubs (built by Peter White) cost more than the frame.

Dude, those posts are like 5 years old. But, let's not let that get in the way of praising a good bike. Here's mine:
There was a brief experiment with mustache bars, but the Noodle is back on now. Laquered tape has since been replaced with Velo Orange elkskin.

My .2, I got a complete 62cm LHT blacktacular a month ago and I consider it a great purchase. The smooth predictable ride and ability to handle differnt terains. Weeks of tweaking and I finally got the Brooks Flyer adjusted to my liking this long weekend.

I'm looking at the same size for my LHT. I'm 6'2" with a 32" inseam. What are measurements if you don't mind? Thanks!

I'm 6'5" 230 lbs. Pants inseam is 36" I forget my standover. You might try the Long Haul Trucker Google group as they have sizing charts and lots of good info. The group really helped me a lot.

The 62cm will be too large for you. Indeed, the 60cm might be a hair too large for you. I am 6'2" with a relatively short inseem. Probably about a 33". I have only a little standover clearence with my 60cm. But I have been riding a 60 cm because I like the way it fits me up top.

Then some crackhead stole my bike out of my house a week before X-mas along with the Robert Beckman racks attached to it. The '11 model I repaced it with doesn't have one. It took me a while to get used to shifting the "other" way. I sill mess up now and again.

Did you get the 26" wheel version? Seems like that would be a good way to go on a small frame.

I love a good revived from the dead thread. And I love my Surly, so I'll chime in. After lusting for an LHT for a couple years, I was finally able to acquire a frame and fork and buy the parts I needed to build it up. I've been commuting on it daily for about a month now and hope to do at least an overnighter or two around DC (C&O, southern MD, others?)
My ride: Surly LHT, black, 700c, 56cm w/ trekking bars, PB Cascadia fenders, front and rear racks, a mountain bike drive train, and v-brakes.

In a way I went with the 700's for same reason, I'm too tall and frankly, that tall bike looks funky with 26", But I rode 26 for years and got nothing bad to say.
Congrats on the new wheels, curious, does the 26" wheel models ride as nice as the 700C units???

Haven't seen this thread until now... was digging through the Touring forum, and I realized I haven't posted a pic of my LHT here yet. Listening to the advice here helped tremendously, and I used the bike fit calculator compared to the Google group's database to figure I needed a 54cm.
It's a 2011 with 26" wheels, built from the frame up. Axiom racks, Tektro long-pull brake levers and MTB v-brakes, Dimension bars, downtube shifters, alivio/sora derailers, a 7-speed cassette rear and a Sanyo dyno front hub. Homemade lighting, and wheels built by myself. I just got a set of Axiom Seymour panniers for the front, and am using a set of Sunlite Traveler saddlebags for the rear. Think I should get a blue Brooks B17?

I'd vote for the blue B17 and while you're at it, you could also cut off one of your ears (my non pc joke quota of the week now taken up)
