I third! Easy, cheap ($1 a piece most places?), and pre-seasoned. I love putting tuna or canned chicken in them. Done and done, couldn't be simpler.

I was going to recommend this site but was beaten to it by two others: https://www.trailcooking.com/ I made instant stuffing, gravy, and canned turkey in a freezer bag once on a backpacking trip. Mmmm gooood.

I would recommend bringing a small bottle of olive oil, a block parmigiana cheese, some small spices from fast food places, salami if you eat meat, dried mushrooms, dried fruits.

chicken and rice is easy enough to make

open your can of cream of chicken soup and put into your cooking pot. add 3/4 can of water. stir and add rice. cook until boiling. once boiling reduce to simmer untill rice is soft, but not mushy. goes great with fried spam.

Dunno about there but the army surplus store will have MRE rations that aren't so bad... just crack the heating pack maybe add some water and dinner is ready in 15 minutes!

I make no guarantees about taste

Viga Black Beans and Rice mix is pretty good. Mix any kind of meat with it. Around here, Kroger sells it, Walmart doesn't. Takes about 20 minutes to cook. Try it at home sometime so you know how much you're making.

Me too. As far as I can tell, many of these one pot touring meals are basically what a broke college student would live on. :-)

That would be awesome with a can of your favorite Cambells condensed soup, but leave the extra water out so it stays nice and think... probably work great with canned chicken too!

My favorite is Zatarans, usually rice and something. Comes in a packet inside a box. Ditch the box and take the packets. All you have to do is boil in water. Fast, easy...
