As an aspiring endurance/touring rider, this is by far one of my favorite threads here on BF!

well Jon, I think you win the "sticker" award!
strange rock fascination, but hey, if it keeps you out of the pool halls, then all's good.

I always though that the average rock had more smarts than any politician. I usually travel solo, I can understand Rocky much better than the ducks and geese. Rocky loves craft beer and I'm fine with that!

Nice to see this thread still alive!
Here's a little contribution from my trans Am trip in 2015.

I remember bumping into an American guy on one of these here in Montreal a bunch of years ago, noticed the bike right away not just because he had panniers on, but more cuz of the neat looking frame. Has a very nice aesthetic look to it with the frame tubes like that.
He said it was a little noodly loaded, but who knows, could have been his racks, how much he had in his bags.

Unique looking bike thats for sure.
I too have recently am very happy with touring with wider tires, I used 2inch Supremes that would have a similar ride quality to these, although more puncture resistant, so not as nice feeling as these, but worked great on my latest trip.

Here's my Vaya with Arkel panniers and handlebar bag. The Brooks Cambium is gone now though -- I tried it for too long and continued to hate it.

Bikes: Surly Ogre

Surly Ogre. All stock except tires (replaced many times, now Marathons), new Deore crankset, Brooks Imperial saddle, crappy stem to shorten reach. Surly racks that weight as much as a bike itself.

I was just on the Trestle bridge a couple days ago for the Iowa MS fundraiser ride.
Confluence AND Cumming Tap stickers?! Cool.

Funny since you enjoy the higher quality of beers in life- the Whistlin Donkey bar in Woodward was having its 6th annual NattyFest over the weekend. Gotta love the mkx of cyclists and townfolk intermixing there.

Looks like a lot of weight on there, any idea how much you are carrying? Also, what is in the big bag on the back rack?

the fellow in question here unfortunately passed away during his trip from a health related problem, but was at least visiting immediate family out east when this happened.

Missoula, just before heading out for two weeks in NW Montana last month. New RaceFace rings look much better than the original silver ones.
