I wonder how the 530's ride compared to the 520's?

The Velo Orange elkhide bar covers are "macchiato" -- they start out a lighter color, but after applying the same Proofide that I use on my saddle they darken up to be similar to the Brooks Honey color. The elkhide bar covers are nice, but be forewarned that they took me almost 4 hours to lace them up (partly due to the time it took me to cut and lace around my Campy brifters without having to remove all the brake and shifter cables). |
Skyler-
I'd like to hear a bit about how you got campy to work with 135mm hub spacing. What is your wheelbuild? Particularly curious about the hub. Its occurred to me I could pull some freehub body swapping magic and end up using some of my campy stuff, but I always get stumped when I start thinking about mixing campy 10 speed with mtb spacing. i guess i haven't thought about it that much, but i'd love to hear your take. |

I've got over 2000 miles on my bike since installing the Campy brifters and I love having them. |

With all do respect, and as much as I agree, I'm not sure you'll make too many "friends" on the road with an anti-car sign on your Bob flag waving in their faces. Whether in the right or not, I still try to minimize my distraction (or contempt) to drivers.
Just a thought. |

This is my setup when I rode the Katy Trail in Sep 08. I rode 242 miles in 6 days. Sedalia to Kirkwood. Camped 4 nights and stayed in a motel in St. Charles. |
Photos from 3 (+1) tours
So I thought I would add 3 pictures from my 2006, 2007 and 2008 tours
2006 Riding down the Rhein from Mulhouse to Koblenz. Then up and back down the Mosel before continuing down the Rhein to Rotterdam -- back by ferry to Hull in UK and thence home http://www.tapan.pwp.blueyonder.co.u...turzelberg.JPG The velo is a Dawes Discovery 601 which I rode for only 1 year. But I liked the Bob Yak trailer a lot. 2007 From Nemours down the Saone and Rhone to Narbonne ( France) http://www.tapan.pwp.blueyonder.co.u...from_T_l_H.JPG This is my current bike. A Thorne Raven Tour which has a Rohloff 14 internal gear hub which is the best thing since sliced bread. The trailer is a Carry freedon Y frame flat bed which I have now used for 2 years now -- but I prefer the Bob Yak by far! 2008 A horrible very wet tour round central France. Starting and finishing in St Malo. I had days on end with torrential rain and went through 2 tents! Not even written up my journal yet but here is a photo just South of Nantes -- Muscadet Wine Country! Taken in May 2008 http://www.tapan.pwp.blueyonder.co.u...e_2008_006.jpg Just compare it with this photo taken at exactly the same spot in April 2004 on my pilgrimage from home to Santiago de Compostella. The bike was a dawes Discovery 501 which was a great, inexpesive, hybrid that took me on 2 tours before it was stolen http://www.tapan.pwp.blueyonder.co.u..._and_Vines.JPG Not posted on here before so I hope it all works! |

A cold morning before sun appears. Just two Front-rollers on a three day trip.

Do Illinois Prairie Path weekend rides to and from friend's houses and to Church count as touring/bikecamping?
Shes loaded here at the last Chicago Crit. A little counter to the current trend but it works. http://photos.l3.facebook.com/photos...1359840_29.jpg |
hello
Each and every one has to dream to ride a bike across his states and across the world. In this forum there are some great photos of bikes. I really like those bike which show in photos. Every one wants to go on tour of whole world with the help of such bikes. It will be such a great experience for one who does this.

Not Bad for $100

Here's Betsy, she's my ex. Bought her in Lhasa for $100 new, rode her to Southern India and sold 'er for $70. This pic is in Nepal where my 100-dollar Betsy was a big hit among the locals - especially kids. Now I'm planning another trip and planning on building a Surly LHT. If you have a sec, check out my other post (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=473751) and help me build a sweet bike - or just give me some advice;-) Thanks.

My Dawes Horizon (aka Anna) posing in Slovakia. Ortliebs on the rear, Carradice on the front. After completing 4000 miles all she required was one change of brake blocks, not bad for a budget tourer. |

Your moots is my dream sports tourer. I'd do it up with campy, but that is certainly a fine bicycle. |

Well it's not loaded for touring, but here's my new LHT loaded with something: groceries. :o
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...N0328small.jpg This is probably more weight than I would tour with (at least initially), but the bike handled the extra heft without any problems at all. Hopefully this winter or spring I can take a few days off and do a mini-tour here in my home state. I've never done it before, and I have limited vacation time, so I will start small and probably just stay in an inn. |

Finally a picture of my 08 LHT, will post a thread on my first tour that I did over this weekend. It was a complete success! The thread will also include drive-train side pictures so take a deep breath. |
Lamplight,
Which front rack is that and how do you like it? |
