hi, this is my first post...here are pictures of my new bike (march '10); after months of daily rides in Milan and around, finally loaded for its first 4-days trip from Livorno to Follonica (costa degli Etruschi - Tuscany) at the beginning of September. It is a Marin Muirwoods 29er.

yes, they are different: few days before the departure, i got a piece of glass that causes a hole in the rear tire, so that i had to change it. the front is Continental town ride 28x1.6, the rear is Schwalbe marathon 28x1.6!

P.S. In case you wanted a head start on what happened... The tour was absolutely the single most amazing thing I've done in my life and I've been back to normal life for about two months and needing to get away again.

It works, but what kind of bike is that? You've certainly got an epic load on the rear wheel!

The bike is a Thorn ExP - the load on the rear looks worse than it is - tend to put stuff on the outside to air or just be there at hand - tends to look a lot tidier when it is raining

You can tour on anything
Let's see how it looks when it is dressed up and ready to go. Guess it'd be ok for light touring.
Is this your bike?

The Rock Cycle
This is Fidelis, thus named after it carried me 2000 miles on a roundabout path from DC to Utah. This bike really wasn't built for touring but we made it anyway, despite a bent rim and four broken spokes along the way. I know, I know, I really shouldn't have been touring with a bent rim but I was determined and made do with what I had. I even made my panniers out of backpacks, which was much cheaper and only a little more inconvenient.

It was great meeting you in Grand Junction. Hope the new rear wheel we sent you off with worked out ok. Look us up if you come this way again!

Just picked up my XXL Fargo today from the LBS. Still missing the front and rear racks, frame bag and fenders, but it was nice to take it out for its first ride. The ride is awesome! Here are two photos. Can't wait to get it out on the Katy Trail.

Loaded rig photos will follow.

Rico, how does it handle with the weight up high on the frame bag like that? The Surly has a pretty long wheelbase which should compensate, but I wonder. You using it off road a lot? Nice job btw.
