Hey everyone,
Thought some people on here might be interested in this. Two guys (one from Co Wexford) are cycling from the most northerly point of Alaska to the most southerly point of Argentina, and they’ve given themselves 350 days to do it. They’re eager to reach out and get people involved, so thought I’d spread the word!
The project is called 350 South and we’re hoping to make a documentary of their adventure. Ian Lacey and Lee Saville began their life-changing journey on July 15th and the 17,000 mile trip will take them through the most beautiful and spectacular terrains in the world.
There are a couple of different aims with their journey. Ian and Lee’s decision to use their bikes will highlight the importance of environmentally friendly transport and they are passionate about the environment – another reason they chose 350 days is because of the 350.org movement. At the heart of 350 South lies the desire to experience culturally and environmentally diverse peoples and places. Ian and Lee will also meet the Irish diaspora along the way and are keen to find out people’s stories of how they ended up so far from home and how their concepts of “Irishness” may different from their own. The two men are cycling through British Columbia now on their way to Jasper National Park before heading down to Vancouver.
For everyone who wants to know how they are getting on, they will be interviewed on Newstalk 106-108 this Friday at 11am on the Tom Dunne Show.
You can get in touch with them and get involved by visiting their website www.350south.org. To follow Ian and Lee´s adventure, visit: https://www.facebook.com/350South or follow them on twitter @350South.
Thanks!

Very ambitious project. I would assume that they have made inter-continental trips before? I understand that some portions of Central and South America can be a real challenge, not only geographically, but socially. Wish them the best.

Just as an update: The guys had problems with their bikes. That's why they're going to be delayed. They just left Jasper National Park and they had to make a detour to Banff. You can see the photos on their website. https://www.350south.org
Interesting, I just missed these guys because I was in Prudhoe Bay on July 12, finishing my tour from Seattle, WA To Deadhorse, AK.
Best of luck to them. I'll check up on them in the coming months.

I just came across this while looking for 350 South online, I'm a newbie to cycling but have long wanted to travel the Americas so found this interesting, looking up info on the two guys I saw that they haven't actually done anything even close to this scale before! One of them cycled from East to West in the US but the Irish guy Ian hasn't done anything big.
I'd be interested to see how your body would cope with such an extreme journey, in all different climates. Especially if you're not a pro athlete.
