Handlebar Bag & Light Question
I would like to add a handlebar bag but it will block my front light. How do people deal with this? Attaching it to the bag is problematic, most bags are too flimsey so the light would shake too much.
Thanks for the help.

If you have a mid fork fitting for installing a rack and do not use a pannier, you can put a fitting on there to hold a light. There are commercial ones available. I drilled a hole through a short section of wooden broom handle and using a long M5 bolt, a couple nuts and lock washers made it possible to fit a handlebar type light bracket to my front fork.

Minoura gadget to mount light(s) on fork:

I use the Topeak bar extender:

The Minoura did not work well for me. As hard as I tried to tighten the extending arm, it would still shake and move. The extending arm in the Topeak, on the other hand, is locked in place and has stayed in place solid, even though I have two lights on top, including a heavy NiteRider.

I just use the light I have attached to my helmet. I like it there for not only freeing up space on my bars, but as I look somewhere, the light shines there too.

Fork crown mounting is a good position but good mounts are hard to find. Steel reflector mounts are really good. B&M lamps come with a decent bracket. I made a bracket out of an old crank and a sector of small chainring.

Definitely worth reading what Peter White has to say on the subject!

Front brake mount or front rack mount are my two main choices, there are other methods out there, fork mounts and helmet mounts are a couple that come to mind.
