hi there,

i did a search on the forum got nothing back.
I am planning to do couple touring trips this month, one is from Ottawa to Algonquin Park, Ontario, and one is from Ottawa to Adirondack Park, NY.
is there anyway someone can point me out for ordering some cycling maps? I just don't know where to order them..

As far as Ontario is concerned, try here. On a recent tour I invested in the Ontario Bicycle Atlas featured on the linked site. Useful, but bulky. And to be honest, riding around Eastern Canada, New England and New York I found google maps to be as much as I needed; so were you taking a smartphone or tablet you may find your need for paper maps is quite limited.

I was going in the opposite direction, but I enjoyed the route via Otter Lake and Pembroke. I camped at Otter Lake sufficiently early in the season for there to be absolutely nobody else there. Terrific.

There are a couple of recreational maps of Ontario which outlines decent bike routes which are also available plasticized here in Ottawa at World of Maps. I don't have my copy with me but I will have a look this weekend.

For suggested roads in Adirondack State Park (I don't beleive there is a town called Adirondak Park) and some surrounding areas, check out the maps offered by Adventure Cycling Association:

Andrew, your best bet for a cycling map for Eastern Ontario is this one-

You should be able to find it at stores in Ottawa before you begin your trip- above the map you'll find a number of Ottawa stores which carry the map. Aslo look for the free maps of bicycling trails in Ottawa itself put out by the National Capital Commission (NCC).

Something you might also consider is whether or not to make use of Quebec's roads to get up to Algonquin Park. The poster above who suggested making use of Google maps was quite right to point you there. There is even an option which allows you to specify bike-friendly roads. I tried it and came up with this for your Ottawa-Algonquin Park ride (But, really, where in Algonquin Park?!) Check out the suggested Google route-

Note that it takes you to the Quebec side from Ottaw and re-enters Ontario just north of Renfrew. (No passport required!)

Given that you do not specify an exact start or end point, play with it and you should find out all you need to know.

At the beginning of June I did a one-week ride from Toronto to Ottawa via Peterborough and made use of two of the Advermaps. I also used the Google Maps feature. Check out this link if you are interested- https://albinger.me/

I did the ride from Renfrew to downtown Ottawa in seven hours on the Ontario side along some very quite roads suggested by Google Maps.

I have no experience with the Ottawa-Adirondacks ride but again- use the google bike route feature to see what you get.

Provincial park, not state park please. We don't have states up here.

Uh...Read the original post. He mentions a place called "Adirondack Park, NY." That's NY, as is New York, as in the state of New York, in which is located in the Adirondaks Mountains. You may have heard of it. The 1980 Winter Olympics were held there.

i will go with google bicycle map on this one.
as for the adirondack state park, i had a quick discussion with another forum number regrading the border-crossing via ogdensburg, ny on the bicycle. Apparently its not doable. Bicycle/On foot is not allowed at that port.

But the bridge in Cornwall (Seaway International/3 Nations) does allow bicycles so it's still a doable tour.
