very neat, unique experience you had there monsieur
last summer on a supported tour I did with my wife, there was one of those velo cars, you know , the dutch or german ones. Pretty high on the interesting scale.

Sometimes fenders are nice. They really help keep the drive train clean. I can understand why the UL guys' disdain for fenders. Most of the bikes they ride don't have enough clearance, with a 25 mm or 28 mm tire, to use them.


Parts of a route we did a few years ago took us over more than 400 miles of dirt roads and trails. It was raining about half those miles. This is the front of my front panniers with about a half day's accumulation. If it was just water, it would not be a big deal. But that fine sand and grit really wears on moving parts.


This was taken at the same time. While not clean; my feet, legs, and drivetrain are cleaner than my panniers.
