This is my first post here,

I am planning my first tour, it would be from Berlin to Rome based on the EuroVelo 7 (Berlin - Dresden - Prague - Austria - Rome).
My plan is to do it at end if July -> October.
Does the weather should be okay?
Also, does anyone have some advice abotu the route (like "most" places to visit)?

Hi,

Should be fun- we did Berlin-Prague last September and it was great! A few comments:

There are some seriously rough bits of road/tracks. For example we did about 20 - 30 km on forest/gravel tracks through Brandenburg to Lutherstad-Wittenburg. Also the bit just before Prague is rough as hell on what appears to be a road made of sharp rocks! In general there are also a lot of cobbles. Nevertheless, we were OK on a Dawes Galaxy and a Long Haul Trucker both with 38 mm tyres.

In terms of weather- It got surprisingly cold in September and we had to stop to buy more clothes near Dresden! I would be prepared for cycling multiple days in the rain and get your wet and dry routine practiced.

Hi Jim,
I will use my GT Peace 29er with 38/45 tires so i think gravel won't bother me.
I will make sure that I have rain gear (what do you suggest?), thanks!

I second that. You can easily see heavy snow in the Alps on an August day.

Also, if you can, don't let it be your first tour. Do some one and two night weekend tours as preparation. You can work out your interpersonal roles and adaptations at your leisure . . ..
