Touring and fishing
I have plans in the next few weeks hoping to tour Martha's Vineyard and was wondering has anyone ever brought a fishing rod with all of the fishing gear with them on a fishing specific tour? Fall on the Island is just amazing and touring during the Vineyard fishing tournament sounds even better.

Yes, I took a telescopic trout spinning rod, some flies and lures on my last tour to the South Island of New Zealand. However I didn't allow enough time in my itinerary to do much fishing. Would take it again, but need to allow a coupla days off the bike to just fish.

Thanks for the info but I am looking to see if anyone has gone on a fishing specific tour. I have all of the high end fishing gear needed for surf casting but I am a newb when it comes to touring. I would like to leave the truck behind and go on the same fishing trip but now with my touring bike. I am sure there are some hard core fisherman who are also hard core touring cyclists as the Vineyard is a location that is a place where the two activities could intersect.
It sounds like a Discovery network reality TV show..."Tournament Fishing Touring".

Sounds like I need to do the trip and share the experience. Riding from one end of the Island to the other while stopping at all of my fishing spots would be cool to document! It is only ~20miles from one side of the island to the other so it should be fairly simple and FUN.

then again , in England , because of a long tradition of ownership including everything ,
in the Kingdom being the King's , the landlord- property owner , even without having any fishing gear
feared I'd get some of the fish from his stream, camping there.

I've done this a couple times.
First trip was through the Rockies with a fly rod. Caught fish but didn't cook them. Too much trouble. It was fun! I had to buy fishing licenses in no less than four states. Montana definitely had the best trout fishing.
Second trip was across the great plaines. Took an open spinner reel. Caught small catfish and bluegill under county highway bridges. Sometimes I fished from the top of the bridge (probably illegal). This seemed to work great! The fish couldn't see me and you could really place the lure where you wanted it.
Fishing is a great way to mix up the day and it takes up minimal space on the bike.
