Can the new google maps export kml?

When I save maps in My Places I often want to then export kml so I can view the map in google earth and look at elevation profiles. But the maps editor has changed since I last got into it and I don't the option to export kml anymore. For that matter, I don't see the option to create a link that will embed the map in a web page, although I can easily modify links I've made in the past to do that effectively.

Anybody know how to get kml for a custom map from the google maps web site?

Do all here instead. New Google is a fix for something that wasn't broken.

I just tested this by making a map and saving on Google Maps.

After clicking "my places" tab, the list of my saved maps appears. If I select a route from this list by clicking, then route appears, along with a KML link in blue. If I click link then I can download KML data.

If I click on the Edit button at this point the KML link disappears, but if I then click Done it goes back to previous route view, and KML link once again is available. I do not see an "embed" link, and since I never used it I don't recall seeing this link in the past.

I haven't used Google Maps KML export data more than a few times, but in my case it appears to work fine and is not too complicated. Try it again, Walter.

When I select My Places I see my routes. Then I select one and I see the route but do NOT see a kml link anywhere.

This is my Ride to Vogul route.

I wish I could select Classic google maps but I don't see that anymore either.

I also found Create With Classic Google Maps and tried that. It created a map that was much more like what I've seen in the past (still listed under My Places). But this one too, is missing a link to download kml.

Walter, my screen looks like your 2nd pic, except I have a KML link to the right of "Write a comment".

I'm using Classic GM, and I have the KML link on 1) desktop with Win 2000 Pro OS + obsolete version of Firefox, 2) laptop with Vista OS and latest compatible version of FF and 3) tablet with Android 4.1 and FF app.

BTW, you can select Classic GM if you choose, google for help.

I googled a bit for missing KML link:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...om-google-maps

Good luck figuring this out.
