Winter tour route??

I would like to plan out a short tour for this winter somewhere in the South. I REALLY will want to get away from the snow and cold by the time January rolls around!
My thought is to maybe start in South Carolina and work our, my wife and I, down to Tampa or maybe Fort Myers.
So anyone have some route suggestions? Or a route that you did?
Would appreciate the help.
Thanks!!

Here's a tour route I did a few years back, from SC to Key West. Do note that it does have some unpaved sections through the backcountry in SC & GA. The route is relatively flat. I did it in both directions in 28 days and that included laying on the beach a couple of days. I did it in May/June and it was hot!

Some US rides I've done over winter months include:
- Key West, FL to Savannah, GA
- Brownsville, TX to Dallas, TX
- "The Christmas Ride" in San Diego
- One lap around Big Island of Hawaii

This year my plan is to drive myself one way to Brownsville and spend a week slowly getting myself back to Austin by way of the Rio Grande valley. Southern Texas can be occasional hit and miss - with 80F temperatures or a freezing ice storm. Not real winter like those of you in north, but still enough that I'll keep some flexibility in my schedule if I decide to take a shorter ride one or two days.

Winter tour route??

SoCal deserts? Anzo Borrego, Joshua Tree, Death Valley... I toured there a few years back January to March. Warm during the day but down to freezing some nights, so a good sleeping bag is important. Short days of course.

I'd do it again. May well be so next winter. At the end of March/beginning of April the desert flowers

There's a boat you can take from Ft. Myers to Key West, so you could do a one-way there or back. Much of Florida away from the coast is unappealing.

I have good experience of Upper Tampa Bay Trail last April with my wife. This trail provides a scenic escape from its congested surroundings. It winds through suburban Citrus Park on an unused railroad corridor and extends along the west bank of the Channel a waterway, a drainage canal.

Just about anywhere in the southern hemisphere ... January is summer down here.

But some places in Europe might not be bad either.

Take the A1A through Florida on the Atlantic to Key West. I see people on that route everyday. Must be something to it if so many are doing it.

I'm always amazed how some respondents completely ignore the specifics in a request for suggestions. The OP would like destination suggestions for "a short tour for this winter somewhere in the South", and January is mentioned. Europe, Chile, the southern hemisphere? Really, people? Europe is fine, but not in January, nor for a "short" tour. Chile is fine, but again, why would someone want to fly there or anywhere in the southern hemisphere for a "short" tour when they specifically ask for destinations in the southern USA?
