Using stuff sacks will save a couple of pounds over more conventional bags, but at the cost of lots of straps and some inconvenience. Specialist bikepacking bags get around some of those issues, but people then proceed to stick bags all over their bikes which costs a lot and increases weight again. I find a single large saddlebag and a handlebar bag to be the most convenient for riding and getting around using buses and trains.

Even though I use them, bikepacking bags are definitely fussy, especially the handlebar rolls. There's something to be said for the convenience of a rack and pair of small panniers despite the weight penalty.

Nun, I'm surprised your legs don't rub against your Carradice. I tried it and it didn't work for me. Otherwise that setup of yours is nice and simple.

So I devised my Dream Ultralight Bikepacking Kit https://lighterpack.com/r/bns160

This is a 3-season around the world bikepacking kit with all the essentials that I need to bike tour, camp, and cook comfortably.
Add a 15lb titanium road bike to the mix and it's my dream of the perfect UL touring set-up.

Sadly I don't think I will ever be able to afford such an amazing kit

If you feel that there is something that's absolutely essential while bike touring that is missing from my kit feel free to let me know.

Thank you, I just read over that list and discovered the exact shoe I am looking for, the Shimano MT71. Sweet!

Not gonna lie, I splurged on those as well, needed an all around touring shoe and it seems to fit the bill. Hope it was worth it.
