I think part of the reason it stayed together as much as it did was the 110 degree heat. I would guess half the field dropped out at some point during the race.

Dear Carleton,
I built my first dedicated track bike the other day and I'm running a rear eai cog, sugino zen chain ring, and a izumi track chain. Is some noise normal? Not really sure what to expect since my last fixed gear was pretty silent and this one is making noise consistently as it goes around. No ping like sounds though just a costant whir as the drivertrain engages. It also still makes noise no matter how much I fiddle with chain tension and the wheel is straight in the drop out. I'm guessing its normal but I wanted to double check. haha
btw nice avatar
Thanks,
Cubex

It's probably the chain. Mine does that, too when I use an Izumi chain.
