Morning vs late afternoon LTHR
Hello,
When I bike in the morning, let's say 7am, to get to work I tend to see Zone 2, Zone 3 work and sometimes Zone 4 or 5 with short power climbs. I end-up with a graph of like 50% Z2, 35% Z3, 13% Z4 and 2% Z5 (example). It's very easy to "rest" and go back to Z2.
But when I come back home in the late afternoon, about 4:30pm, my HR soars to Z4, and stays pretty much there, and oscillates to 5. So I end up with a graph like 5% Z2, 50% Z3, 35% Z4 and 5% Z5. Shifted a notch; when "resting" its much harder to get back to Z2. That's true for my full commute (31km each way) or my short commute (14km..); the distance does not seem to matter.
From a power perspective, I believe I'm going just a tab bit harder (wind, uphill, motivation to get home..). So my TSS is not that different, a bit higher (on TrainingPeaks). But Strava is through the roof with the suffer score. Now I know one is power based and the other is HR based.
The overall result is that I don't look at my HRM on the way back home anymore, I go by RPE. But I do in the morning.
Is it possible that the LTHR is different in the afternoon than it is in the morning? Do I need test for and use two separate values?
