I dropped from 195 to 193, but I have been 193 for 2 weeks now.

I can't believe that I have stayed at the same weight despite cycling over 80 miles, running 10 miles and swimming 3 miles this month - compared to December when I cycled 10 miles, ran 4 miles and swam 2 miles.

Any weight loss is a good loss when you're really trying.
If you're plateauing you might actually be doing too much exercise for the amount of food your body is getting.
Through my weight loss season last summer I was pretty much only doing sprints (about 15km). Any time I did more than that my weight would plateau for a few days which would slow down my weight loss.

Well I have an easy week as it is recovery from chemo so I guess I will just swim 1-2km midweek and then rest until Sunday.

Amazingly I got on the scales today and was 191... funny how my weight dropped the day after complaining about 2 weeks of 193.

Haha, that's ALWAYS how it works!

I am 6ft tall and I have been at about 225lbs for about 6 months I quit eating meat (cold turkey haha) about 6 months ago and lost 10lbs just eating better. I have been trying ride about 50 or more miles a week but an upcoming knee surgery is going to through a wrench in my weight loss game. I am just gonna have to stay away from pizza rolls and chips. Keep up the good work everyone and keep the posts coming they get me stoked and big shout out to BionicChris for getting me hyped, thanks again.

Keep exercising one way or another -- that knee is just on one of your four limbs. Plus, now that you've started the other half of getting more fit (eating better), it'll all work better now. :thumb:

To put a Buddhist (I suppose ;)) spin on it -- that "wrench" will become another useful tool. :D

Another 2lb drop - down to 189 now.

I have lost 21 pounds in six weeks since I started eating right and exercising. Its pretty amazing how good and engerized one can feel from eating right and exercising.

This is how I have changed my diet:
Stopped drinking soda.
Stopped eating at fast food restaurants.
Stopped eating deserts.
Started drinking Green Tea on a daily basis.
I eat all my meals in bowls. The food portions look bigger in a bowl than on a plate and I feel satisfied when I eat the entire portion.
I only buy groceries from shelfs that line the perimeter of the store.
I will not eat anything unless I have first read the label. I am pretty amazed to see how some "healthy" snacks, etc have high sodium and sugar content.
I have limited myself to 4 beers a month. (large beers, of course :D)
I allow myself to have 4 "free day" meals per month. This means that I eat and drink whatever I want which helps with the cravings. It also makes it easier for me to stay disciplined and eat right the rest of the time.

Exercise routine:
Workout 4 days a week. 2 days cardio, and 2 days weight training.
I ride my bike 2 days a week for about an hour and a half.
I started going to bed earlier and getting around 9 hours of sleep which has helped with muscle recovery and of course I have more energy.

Supplements:
Fatburner
Glutamine
Whey Protein

Besides the weight loss from eating right and exercising, my skin has also cleared up.

My plan is to lose another 40 pounds and make the food and excersise a lifestyle adjustment. I do not want to go back to being fat and lazy.

Started with a nutritionist in late Oct 2011. Have dropped to 117 from 152. Changed the diet, riding the bikes more often and longer. Blood pressure has gone down quite a bit too. In about a month or two, will be doing bloodwork to check cholesterol, triglycerides, etc........

No pills except daily vitamin and omega3 and baby aspirin (which will probably go away now), lots of water.

Shooting for 195 to 200 as final. I have and always have had a large frame.

BarracksSi 02-26-12 03:46 PM

I gained about 4-5 pounds in ONE day last week. That was when I went out and splurged on Mexican food. Didn't even clear the plate, even though three enchiladas is still a bunch of nastiness. The bonus was what they call a "Mucho Macho Margarita"; despite the fact that the glasses are smaller than they have been in the past, they're still elevated to eye level and about 10" across.

I poked around online for an explanation, and people said that sodium (which I suspect makes up for half of most restaurant food these days), alcohol and sugar (all three of which are present in a margarita) will throw off your body chemistry and make you retain water.

Sure enough, after getting back to my normal food, in about three days I was three pounds lighter, and back to my previous weight by the end of the week.

Some people say to not obsess about the scale all the time, but the way I see it, it can help you track exactly what your body is doing day-by-day. It was really easy for me to point to that dinner as something that will affect my weight. It also was made clear that its effects were temporary, at least as far as body weight was concerned.

I have been on this road so many times with up and down weight but this time I have a prurpose and it's called living to the fullest and I'm just happier when lighter and faster. I struggled with depression last year and after a wake up call from my doc I am back and going strong. In 2006 I began to have medical issues which I have no intentions of talking about but being 6'1" 305lbs, chain smoking to the 2-3 packs a day I was pretty much told to chainge or I wouldn't see my kids grow up. Over the course of 4 years I went from running to cycling and eventually worked down to 197lbs in May of 2010. Forward to January 2012 I'm sitting on couch depressed and 248lbs and I knew it was time to pull my life back together. I have spent a ton of time on rollers, trainer, doing P90x and eating a whole lot better and today I stepped on scale and saw 215 and lets just say I'm pretty happy. I have a goal of 190 by the end of this summer but my ultimate goal is 175 by my birthday in June of 2013. It might be a stretch and some say it can't be done but that is what makes me work even harder. Could luck to all those out there who are struggleing with both weight and depression, both can be defeated!

101.5kg down to 99kg in 11 days of riding 25km every morning before Breakfast and 40-60km on Saturday and Sunday. It helps that my work involves a lot of movement so I get a bit of a workout there as well. Last couple of days have been stubborn at 99, but I feel a lot stronger so I suspect its more muscle and less fat. At any rate, going for 85kg by the end of the summer. I haven't seen that number since I was 18...

I have ran into the samething. I am currently "dieting" and have noticed latley that I am not losing pounds at the moment, but that I am losing inches. I do notice that my legs are stronger and my calfs are looking a little bigger.

krobinson103 03-25-12 12:15 AM

2 weeks back there would be no way I could have gone 40km in the morning, rested for a few hours gone another 20 - including some serious uphill action off road and come home and feel... fine. Seriously I feel like I could go and do it all again.

I'm 6'1", too. The last time I was 175 was halfway through boot camp before I rebuilt muscle mass. I never got as heavy as you, but I was up to 235 just over two years ago, and have maintained 188-193 over the past year or so. Eating right and good exercise (I regularly go to P90X, too) is what's worked for me. I would like to wipe off the excess layer around my tummy, but at the same time, I'm stronger than I've ever been. 175 is not impossible, but don't beat yourself up if you can't get below 185 yet you can manage twenty pullups in a row. ;)

Two weeks ago, I lost 9 lbs. Last week I gained 3 but I ate like crap. A few months ago, my doctor advised me to get healthy because of my serious acid reflux and high blood pressure. Since that, I have an app that helps track what I eat and I exercise and workout daily and drink LOTS of water. I believe dieting is more important than exercising but both are major factors in loosing weight.

I believe people always start off gun-ho about it and burn themselves out. I am guilty of that. So this last time, I started off slow. Doing 10 minutes of exercise and 5 push ups and 20 crunches. Then I increased my exercise time and increased my workout monthly. I feel so good in the mornings that I will never stop. I now look forward to exercising and and I actually enjoy eating healthy foods now.

2 months on and I'm only at 186 right now. I am slimmer and stronger though, so the fat is going somewhere!

Second month of riding 2012 season. Started at 177lbs last March, now at 166 and aiming for 161 as my goal (5'11") These last few lbs are a real pain. Down to precise calorie counting and high mileage, hope to hit goal in mid June.

litesleeper 04-23-12 06:30 AM

What is your bike mileage per week?

Any food you avoid?

I'm at 188. I want to be in the 150-170 range by October or November for a marathon this year.

I was 176lbs when I started reading "Younger Next Year". I followed the books recommendations which is basically exericise 6 days a week (4 cardio and 2 weight training). Exercise with a heart monitor and maintain a certain rate based on your age. For me a brisk walks does the trick but I enjoy riding the bike and have been doing that for about 3 weeks. On the eating side, diets do not work so don't even start. Just quit eating crap which is white rice, potatoes and non whole grain wheat breads. I'm down 9lbs which for me, is quite a dip in under 3 weeks and feel great.

+1, the this is it: avoid white foods, sugared drinks and anything and all fried...then just keep your total net calories at about 2,200 and it will slowly come off. Patience and consistency is the trick. It's not a diet, it's a way of life.

I don't consider changing the way you eat for life a diet. It's a lifestyle. Diets don't work period. Sure, you may lose weight, but as soon as you get off the diet, you gain the weight back and usually plus some.

What I mean is, the word "diet" is used as a catchall term for any weird, temporary, unusual -- and often unhealthy -- change in daily eating habits. South Beach Diet, Atkins Diet, etc. The fact is, what anyone eats right now is their "diet", whether it's Moon Pies and Cheez-Its or lean meats n' veggies.

You're right, though -- the best thing is making a good change in diet permanent so it can become part of your lifestyle. This is how people can eat healthy even if they're roped into going with friends to TGI Friday's (or, better in a strange way, Golden Corral, where you can pick what and how much to put on your plate).
