Calorie Ratio

For the past couple weeks I’ve started journaling my calorie, fat, carbohydrate and protein intake. I’ve noticed that some days half of my calories can come from fat (95% of the fat in my diet is from beans, nuts, seeds and olive oil). For the past two weeks, my average calorie intake has been 2265 with 729 from fat, 1126 from carbohydrates and 347 from protein and my highest calorie intake has been 3403 calories, 1222 from fat, 1440 from carbohydrates and 595 from protein. My calories from fat seem to be a bit high at times (the highest has been 786 fat calories out of 1724 calories) so I was wondering if I should back off the beans, nuts and seeds a little.

Thanks

What are you trying to accomplish by tracking your caloric intake(weight loss, muscle gain, weight control?)

Beans - unless you are eating pork and beans or other beans with a lot of stuff on them - have very little fat.

Try to limit your nut and seed intake to an ounce or two a day. Also- get nuts that are not salted or roasted. Those have extra fat and hydroginated oils.

I eat a lot of refried beans with organic vegetable stock. They actually only have 4g of fat per cup so I guess they aren’t really a concern. I do however make my own energy bars from sunflower seeds, peanuts, peanut butter (natural). I also eat a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (1 or 2 a day). An ounce or two a day might be tough. Rats! (The nuts I buy are neither salted or roasted)

My purpose for watching my calories is to both control my weight and also gain some muscle in my legs (for racing at the track).

Get away from eating all the nuts and peanut butter and find food that are higher in protein.
sunflower seeds=74% fat 14% protein (needs to be reversed for what you want)
peanuts(raw)=73% fat 17% protein
peanutbutter(depends on brand)=71%fat 16%protein

rosarita fat-free refried beans=71%carbs 29%protein much better

Track you sodium intake as well, if you use lots of broth/refried beans/peanut butter/bread are all high sodium foods.
