Don't forget good 'ol spinach.

Sauted in olive oil with lots of chopped garlic. Way cheap and delicious.

Two of my friends were backpacking the appalachian trail, and met a guy who was in the middle of setting the speed record for hiking it. He didn't have any food or water, just jugs filled with olive oil!

I prefer to have my jugs filled with extra virgin olive oil. Throw in a little bread and i'm set.

Could you elaborate until I'm not completely baffled any longer?

The guy was speed hiking a trail that's 2200 miles long (took him 1.5 months). Instead of wasting weight by carrying water AND food, he carried olive oil. Lots of calories, lots of moisture.

Oil is liquid, but there's no moisture in oil. Oil and water don't mix. It's a good idea though.

To Zee - I haven't been to New Yasmeen Bakery in years...thanks for reminding me of it. I'll have to go there the next time I'm in Ann Arbor.

If there's no water in olive oil, and I'm gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that straight-up olive oil is not all that nutritious or good for you in copious amounts, how is it a good idea? That's like somebody trying to save weight on a bicycle tour by only taking one wheel,(I'm sure it's been tried before ) That's pretty ********. That guy probably passed out after a day or two. Seriously, let it sink in, the more you consider the logistics of living off of olive oil, the more like a Monty Python sketch it becomes.

Depends on your area. It's not cheap where I was previously living in Colorado, but it's $0.50/lb or less most times in Chinatown here in NYC.
